Haye & Klitschko Ringside

Post by rob h »

Watching this I just feel embarassed for Haye.

I understand he is trying to sell the fight, but he sort of reminds me of Degale a few weeks back on the same show.

Wlad seems very cool, calm and collected and he seems very clever, psychologically.

Klitschko definately has the edge in my opinnion.

You cant be for real.

The guy has a docterate from university and speaks 5 languages fluently.

There's only one guy playing mind games, and it aint Haye.

Think about how friendly and cheery Wlad is toward Haye and everyone. He's disarming him.

If you watch the interviews with the press after they were saying that wlad had been looking to and expecting to draw haye into argument at the previous press conferences. Haye has done the opposite to what wlad has prepared for by either being subdued or not being in the same room as him. If anything i thought it made wlad look a little frustrated with the whole "magic hand" nonsense, he doesnt like being ignored and he doesnt like not being treated by his opponents as the lord and messiah.

Clever tactics, i dont personally think wlad will ever loose his cool but he is certainly getting annoyed and frustrated by haye. He isnt being friendly to haye, he is saying nice things and being patronising but his eyes are looking evil and intimidating.

King Geedorah wrote:They're both playing their parts well. Really warmed to Wlad. His "Shake the magic hand" followed by that sinister waving -- motion, is he replicating a shark, a fish, a magician -- is borderline creepy, surreal, bemusing and bizarre, I like it. It is bonanza.

It was almost exactly like watching a debate betwixt Meister Eckhart and James Toney. I enjoyed it.

That said, Wlad is getting knocked out come fight night. Vitali will get stopped.

War Haye. As Bob said, "A small axe can chop down a big tree." A bloody massive one would do the job quicker, granted. But you get me drift.

It is a bonanza of bonanzas.

That was a brilliant show from a promotions aspect, the tension was tangible and I'm sure that casual boxing fans or even non-boxing fans will be excited about this fight now.
Wlad was very impressively cool, but it's easy to underestimate the intelligence of Hayes approach. I'm guessing that he probably is slightly intimidated in Wladimir's presence, but his arguments for refusing to share the room were convincing. Two very smart guys.
But as it's already been observed on the thread, and by the fighters, it's fight night that counts.
Thank you sky sports for showing us how to hype a fight in a classy way.

I was actually cringing for haye, thought wlad came across well, haye just looked like a childish dickhead who couldn't think of anything witty or offensive to say to him. Can't see the reason why he would sit in a different room, it's obviously all for show and to hype the fight but he looked like a right tool to me. If I wasn't going to the fight and sitting in the British section I would be supported wlad, but as I am will cheer on hate just for the atmosphere

I thought that was great actually. Yeah it looks a bit petulant from Haye but it helps build the anticipation, we should enjoy this while it lasts.

It's nice to see fighters respect each other but there has to be some needle especially with such a big build up. I thought Mosely and Pac were going to break out the tea and scones at some points in their press conferences and that translated into the ring.

I haven't watched it yet but I'd rather animosity between them. I''ve had the mutual respect up to here (motioning to my eyeballs) after Pac-Mosley love in.
Saying that i remember Pac-Hatton promo tour was like a testimonial until Pacquaio decided to fornicating destroy Ricky I wonder when their pact went sour.

Yeah it's not all about needle in the build-up, they are professional fighters after all. Just in the case of Pac Mosely the touching gloves each round and general lack of intensity made it seem like a bit of a sparring session.

Indeed, a crackling heavyweight bonanza between two precocious talents with machismo to spare.

Wladimir came across better no doubt. He's won the battle(wooing media) but Haye will win the war (the fight). :D

Haye was right not to share the camera with Wlad.
Wlad's a smart guy, great talker and would have easily made Haye look even more of a fool than Haye made himself look by his childish antics.
I don't recall Haye making me cringe like this before; Wlad really established himself as the Alpha Male as far as charisma, smooth talking and pre-fight composure are concerned.
I warmed to him greatly.

Having said that...July 2nd, Haye will clean Wlad's clock.

Brilliant Job by Sky and Adam as always.

What I liked about Wlad was that he seemed geniune in his respect and him seeing Haye as a challenge. I was worried that he was underestimating Haye - he isn't.

One thing that is annoying me about this promotion, is the experts all seem to be petraying them as two polar opposites.... Haye not educated formally, Wlad the Dr, Haye the natural warrior who had fights in schools, Wlad the scientific boxer without the heart or the fighting instinct......almost as if he scientifically though "oh I am a big guy, not much talent in the devision I will fight" WRONG - Wlad and Vitali are proper fighting men, make no mistake about it. Vitali was a kickboxer and Wlad was an Olympic gold medalist - they both been in the fight game (in one form or another) for years and years.

I do have a couple of points to make though.

1) Is this the first fight Wladimir has had with this much attention? Haye has had a fair few, not global, but used to these multiple press conferences. I cannot think of a Wlad fight with such hype. Will this affect him as the hype builds up?

2) Been reported that Wlad has split up with his tiny mrs.... hows that going to affect his mind?

He made reference to her (as being his girlfriend) on an interview on BBC breakfast news the other day. I think Haye's alleged marital problems (some of the tabloids picked up on it a few weeks back) might be more significant.
