Friday OT: all-time Premier League XI

Post by Mensa07 »

apologies for the OT, just thought I'd kick something off for a bit of friday banter, assume a few of you will be footy fans?

Just wondered who your Premier League XI would be, don't have to try and balance the team, or anything fancy, just the best player in each position (say 4-4-2 for simplicity) since the start of the PL (93-94? can't remember).

ok, I'd go with:

GK - Schmeichel
LB - A Cole
CB - Adams
CB - Stam
RB - G Neville
RM - Ronaldo
CM - Scholes
CM - Gerrard (just got the nod over Keane)
LM - Giggs
CF - Shearer
CF - Henry

anyone else?

For me:

GK - Schmeichel
LB - Irwin
CB - Vidic
CB - Stam
RB - G Neville
RM - Ronaldo
CM - Scholes
CM - Keane
LM - Giggs
CF - Van Nistelrooy
CF - Henry

Yes I'm a United fan haha

I f*cking hate Jussi - both personally and as a goalkeeper. Our best goalie plays for Wigan, IMO.

Radebe was easily better than Terry or Ferdinand.... and at least on a par with Stam.

For those few years between 1998 and 2002 he was probably among the top 3 centrebacks in Europe.

Viera
Keane
Giggs
Shearer
Henry

Pretty much the same as most, can't believe no right backs stand out more than G Neville? Had to put Colin Hendry in, the guy was class, he'd tackle with his face if it meant saving a goal. Agree with the Leeds fan earlier too, I'm a bolton fan, but for a couple of years I think Radebe was the best defender in England!! I was tempted to put Hierro in........watched him play for Bolton for a year and he never misplaced a pass once :)

Whats the premier league? Gazza's a legend. Not many of these pussies in the 'premier league' can tie his shoe laces. You do know there was football before the premier league.

I'm not denying he was a great player. But this thread is for an all time 'premier league XI', it's in the thread title. The PL started in 1992, and he left you for Lazio that year. I just don't think his spells at Middlesbrough and Everton were good enough to put him anywhere near the likes of Scholes, Vieira, Keane etc

Hierro Desailly

Laudrup Gullit Deschamps Djorkaeff

Weah Klinsman

Anyone want to add to my team of great players who didn't play their best football in the premier league but did play in it.

I never rated Weah as highly as people seem to, he was a top class player but I never felt he was ever the best player in the world.

Very possibly a political pick but he was clearly a very good player. There were better forwards about at the time he won it though (Romario, Batistuta, Stoichkov, Baggio)

Don't be daft, Sky invented football in 1992, don't you know anything!

Oh and Gary Neville is no way be the best right back in the last 20 years
