Im suprised the WBO did not try to get Watson a top 10 rating and make it official!DougieC30 wrote:Ricky Burns got rid of the ring rust tonight taking part in a Exibition against Sean Watson who's opponent didn't turn up. Haha. They wee guy looked handy to be honest. It was good of Ricky to step in and do that. Not a lot of people can say they had a fight with a world champ in their first fight. At one point the heads came close, think Billy Nelson nearly had a heart attack! It was announced that he's defo on the Liverpool card and an opponent will be named next week.

Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
Was it a good main event with Ancliff and Hughes?
Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
Aye mate. Ancliff started a lot quicker and sharper taking 3 of the first 4, the Hughes started coming into it in the 5th. Ancliffs style would make it hard for anyone to look good against him, he just put pressure on Hughes all night. Hughes has sucess with simple 1 2, right to the boby. I had it a draw going into the last round with Hughes maybe just edging it. I would not have argued either way. Think Kenny Pringle had it 3 to Hughes

Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
What was Brophy like ?
Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
Aye mate boxed better than his first fight. Billy Nelson told him to get on his jab and it worked a treat. He has a nice left uppercut if he sets it up. I was talking to Paul last night, he also had Mark Bett boxing on the showAlba wrote:What was Brophy like ?

Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
Opponent announced next week - after the 21st by any chance?
Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
I see what your getting at Stu. It may well be a possibility. I think Burns would beat Cook to be honest. Who's Cook boxing on the 21st?
Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
I was there aswell mate, enjoyed it. Was a decent wee card and the fighters were matched reasonably well.
Superb of Burns to step in like that, Watson had sold a decent amount of tickets only for his fight to fall thru' at the last minute so at least his fans got to see him do a bit. He definately looks like he might be worth keeping an eye on himself.

Opponent will surely be Nicky Cook if he comes through his warm up on 21st
Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
That will be to get the rounds in. 8x3s they will probs do. If am naw wrong am sure Warren had Burns fighting Hamidi on the undercard of Mitchell v Katsidis then Burns got his Eorld title shot a couple of months later?Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:Yousef Al HamidiDougieC30 wrote:I see what your getting at Stu. ricky burns should have rather fought emmanuel tagoe a tougher opponent that joseph laryea.......that will have proven his toughness to hold down the title.....

Tagoe is a lot better known than Laryea - and you should brush up on who he is because it's likely he'll come over soon from Africa. Vicente Martin Rodriguez (WBC 10th WBO 7th) was meant to be his opponent for the Africa WBO title, but he fought countryman after Rodriguez pulled out. AKA 'Game Boy' he is about 21/22 years old and came to light after beating Abdul Malik Jabir (Ghana national champ) and "teak tough"billy nelson wrote:WHO?wahabenson wrote:ricky burns should have rather fought emmanuel tagoe a tougher opponent that joseph laryea.......that will have proven his toughness to hold down the title.....
He lost his first ever fight, as he'd only been boxing a little over 7 months when they threw him in with Ghana's Commonwealth amateur boy. He hasn't lost since and is a veritable 'bonanza' of a fighter.

Mate rickys first defence of the commonwealth was against an African with 17ko's out of 19 fights and Burns stopped him,Rickys style is ideal for African fighters who all seem to box the same way and seem to have the same weaknesses imo. Re: ricky Burns Boxed in Exibition tonight
well if you think Ricky burns has a toughness against african boxers, wait till he gets in the ring with Tagoe.....his campo ducked Tago for Laryea even when Tagoe was rated higher than Laryea with the WBO.....even now when Laryea is not recognised by any body, Tagoe who hasnt fought for quite a while now is still rated and opponents dont want to fight him...well i challenge Ricky to pick him up now.....
