What did Hatton mean re: HBO?

Post by Phoenix »

anyone else catch the sky replay of the fights? after the Harris farce they were talking to Ricky about the difficulties of making the Cotto and PBF fights because of HBO/Showtime. Ricky said yeah they're both over at HBO so maybe thats the way to go, or something. Seems a bit harsh on Jay Larkin and co to jump ship now he's made it to the top? Then again don't showtime promote the fact they operate on a one fight only basis nowadays with fighters, to prevent getting screwed all the time? just wouldn't seem right Hatton being a 'HBO fighter' for some reason.

Yeah I heard him say that as well. Probably Frank W wouldn't have been too pleased to hear him say such things, but it's true.

Is Hatton now a free agent ?
That's the rumour I've picked up.
If so, he can do what he feels like.
Given the lack of clarity re Sky / ITV etc - wouldn't it make sense to doo his own thing ?
If Frank ends up with ITV, how is PPV gonna work ?

Showtime take fights on a fight by fight basis so I guess its feasible HBO could sign Hatton up. Not sure of the ins and outs of Allegedly's deal with Showtime but I guess its possible Hatton could fight on HBO.

I've asked this question before,

If ITV have signed a contract then does it need PPV. Frank was suggesting the only way he could afford to get the big names on Sky was on PPV (this is prior to the Hatton fight). Surely though with advertising revinue and the money a terrestial chanell can fork out, he doesn't need PPV to finance a fight.

Anybody with more knowledge on TV finances care to confirm or deny this?

I'm guessing is Allegedly signs with ITV then he will leave options open to work with Sky, remember they are still happy to deal on a fight by fight basis.

Perhaps he'll just sell individual fights to the highest bidder between ITV and Sky. Obviously with PPV options Sky would pay him the most for the rights.

No commitments to any TV network, at least not stateside.
