Hang on, looks like I'm talking out of my @rse here. Didn't realise his youth was spent in the United States, guess I should know better than to assume. A bit of Googling reveals:
Amateur career:
Jr Olympics Welterweight 1982 (lost in the prelims)
USA/ABF Regionals Welterweight 1982 (lost in the prelims)
Ohio State Fair National Invitational - semi-finalist 1983 (last minute replacement for Dennis Milton)
New York City Golden Gloves Jr-Middleweight Champion 1984
National Golden Gloves Jr-Middleweight semi-finalist 1984 (lost to Ron Esset who went on to win the tournament)
New York Spanish Golden Glove Championships - Winner 1984 (Middleweight)
US Nationals Jr-Middleweight (Under-19) Gold medalist 1985
New Jersey Golden Gloves Jr-Middleweight Champion 1985
