Newsboy Brown

I am doing a little research into the career of Jonny Hill.

He won the world flyweight title when he beat the American ‘Newsboy’ Brown on points in 1928.

My question is about Newsboy.

His Bio states that he emigrated to the USA from Russia. His name however is not very Russian. David Montrose, as far as I can make out was not an assumed name (migrants often take a name that is easier for the host culture to cope with) but was his given name.

As Montrose is a Scottish Name I am curious as to the history of his family name. Can anyone enlighten me?

Contact Judge WIlliam Shubb at the Newsboy page. He grew up with Montrose, to some degree, and knows a lot about him.
