I spoke to Al Smith in the early hours of Saturday morning and he said that Sam was okay but obviously gutted. I think Sam had a perforated eardrum - which would explain the rubbery legs. When he was stuck on the ropes in the fifth and called for Arron to attack it reminded me of Ward when his eardrum had gone against Gatti. His eyes looked clear but he just couldn't move his legs.

Cheers Ed, I'd been a bit worried we might hear something bad over the course of the weekend.

I wasn't at ringside, I dn't know Sam.

But he should have been pulled after the 9th. Been given eevry chance to turn it around by then.

Gutsy but some heavy mileage put on there.

i agree totally dave, lots of clicks on the clock for that contest. In all honesty, the last result i expected was a prince aaron stoppage, but boy didnt he do well and he held a shot too.

Apparently Sam's ear is pretty bad, burst as opposed to perforated. It sounds like he still can't stand properly let alone walk a couple of yards without losing his balance. Al says that in the corner Sam was crystal clear and argued that he wanted to continue all the way through the fight. Both Sam and Al can't talk highly enough of Arron and Bob. Sam has also said that he is desperate for a rematch.

Burst? ouch, didn't know a smack on the ear could do that.

cant off done his ear anygood boxing on :!: the shot that put him down was clearly round the back of the ear & a peach :!:

as modesy was saying another clean shot & webb looks likely to reel.it was a convincing win & sam has to rest & regroup if truth be told & maybe meet again down the road if possible.

i wouldnt question al smiths sincerity as he treats his boy's better then anyone coach in the country & is a lovelly geezer.

Webb's got a massive pair of cods. Let's hope his lughole is ok soon. He was quality for the first four. He moved superbly, and I think he actually won the 6th for me, the round after the knockdown. That said, I would have liked to have seen it stopped. He took too many shots in the later rounds.

Does anyone know if it was definitely right hook in the 5th that done his eardrum?

If he can get back to full fitness and there's no risk of ongoing issues with the ear, then everything should be done to rematch these two.

It's said so often that Styles Make Fights and this was a classic example. I can see Webb winning (if healthy) and setting up a rubber match.

What, based on that fight, makes you think Webb can win? Would be mad to go for a rematch.

He was winning the fight til he got clocked and even after that he was competitive until the late rounds. If, as it turns out, he was hampered by the ear issue, take that away and it was an even fight. If he can avoid getting hit so cleanly again, he can certainly outwork Arron to a decision.

Webb was winning the early rounds but there is no way he can keep up that level of movement throughout 12. Once he starts to slow, Arron will start to pick him off again

It makes perfect sense now his balance issues. He legs were not "gone" in the normal way it was like he couldn't walk properly.

Hope he recovers well from the injury, not a nice thing to have that. As for a rematch, would love to see it a couple of fights down the line as it is intriguing, but I still think Arron can make his advantages pay once Webb slows down.
