Despite Fr ank's comments that Kell is essentially killing himself to make 10'7, the truth is very different. Kell is bang on it in training and currently weighing just over 11st with five weeks to go before the fight. Dominic Ingle told me today that he is absolutely bang on schedule and will cruise the weight, probably hitting the mark about ten days before fight night. THe truth is that Kell makes weight very comfortably these days and always has WHEN HE HAS TRAINED HARD. Dave Coldwell, who also trained Kell, will glady confirm that probs only ever occurred when Kell was messing around. He hasn't done that for a long time. To be honest, Kell could even make 10st for the right fight. Light middle isn't on the agenda at all.
Kell is a natural welter and wants to compete at his natural weight. He may well move up at some point but not for the forseeable.
Mr Warre n's comments, that Kell will end up 'dead on his arse at the weight', could be interpreted as an attack on the professional competence of his trainer Dominic who would never allow Kell to get in the ring at anything less than 100%.
As a solicitor myself and one who successfully defended Kell in his appeal against conviction, i can also confirm that Kell was never going to get a custodial sentence for this offence. Mr Warre n's letter was no doubt very helpful to Kell's mitigation but even without it Kell would have been facing a sentence in the community. As it is, Kell's innocence was confirmed in due course and he is man of good character with no criminal convictions. He's not a 'bad lad' at all.
Still, I'm sure that F W wishes Kell all the best in the future. I know that Kell and his dad are both very grateful for F W's assistance in helping him get where he is today and from their point of view at least they wish F W well
