Actually yeah. IT was those guys.KOJOE90 wrote:Do you mean Holmes and Shavers? I only ask as both claim Foreman avoided them.jab wrote: Foreman did avoid certain fighters,
Holmes may be BSing about it, but About Earnie Shavers I know from Foremans own mouth. He says he wanted the fight, but his management did not want to touch that wiht a 10` pole. George was confident about it, but the trainers and advisers said it is too much of a risk and convinced him not to fight this guy. (at least thats what he says; but I happen to believe the story, at least the part about his team not wanting the fight. Though I must say if Big George really felt so confident about it he would have overruled them. So perhaps a lingering doubt was there.)
As for Frazier, I doubt he ever inspired fear in George. His management wanted this fight and so did George. They were all convinced the big guy will steamroll Joe, which is what he did.
I have the tape of both fights and I couldnt see any feet shaking or trembling form Foreman. I think he i stelling tales, to brush up the wounded ego of Frazier. The way he blew out Joe is refuting these tales of fear shaking legs etc. Foreman was confident and had a determined look and demeanor from the word go.
Styles make fights. Ali used to say that he beat Foreman because he could stay away from him for 3 rounds and that Joe lost because he could not stay away for the first 3 rounds. I think Ali was right.
Frazier would have had an excellent chance to win if he could somehow stay away from George int he first 3 rounds. Unfortunately he could not and got himself busted up in the first 2.
A better match up that Foreman vs Tyson or vs Frazier would have been Foreman v Liston. Now that would have been something!
