Amir Khan vs Tim Bradley

Post by whiskey »

I think Amir Khan is going to struggle for a July date on HBO and might have to forfeit it.

Tim Bradley has long been linked with Top Rank via his manager Cameron Dunkin, but is not free to leave Gary Shaw promotions until June time.

Naturally this leaves Bradley's hands tied because he cant sign a fight contract until after that point, plus the window between leaving shaw and the Khan date would be too small to promote it properly or have more than a 4 week training camp.

Now it would seem Zab Judah has gone from telling the world that "Id fight Khan OR Mcloskey" to "Khan is just a kid"... which tells me he either wants more money (no chance with Khan) or isn't interested.

That leaves Erik Morales and Guerrero the ghost.

I'd be happy (ish) with Morales, given his game attitude against Maidana. He showed a better chin and I think the styles would gel well. Previously to Maidana I wouldn't have been that pleased with it.

When you take Bradley away and Ortiz up at 147 it suddenly looks a bit barren at 140.

Alexander? He'll have a point to prove after accusations that he quit against Bradley, and Khan could make a statement if he does a better job than Bradley. Makes sense (...but since when did that mean anything in boxing...!)

A Maidana rematch? I would much rather see that than Morales/Khan! Also the winner of Matthyse/Alexander would be a very credible opponent

They're looking at Maidana II. HBO like it, a rematch of 2010's fight of the year. Apparently Morales turned it down. Shame that Bradley's just disappeared from the plans. Apparently the Khan's will be announcing something this Friday.

Maidana II or I hate to say it maybe Prescott just because either of those fights are at least an easy sell after the McCloskey shenanigans.

Maidana's with GBP too so it doesn't get much easier to make. And the fight will be in Vegas on the July date.

Maidaina is the only sensible option at this stage and should hopefully be another good match. It will be good to see how both adapt their game plans

He's fighting Judah at the Mandalay Bay. WBA, IBF unification

Why would he give up a headline slot on HBO?

Also, what's the money got to do with Khan? It's a Golden Boy show, not Khan Promotions. He works out his deal, that's that.

Isn't Bradley looking likely for Pacquiao's next opponent?

Hi Glyn, why do you think Team Khan don't seem interested in a Breidis Prescott rematch, which would be a big seller over here, actually more attractive than Tim Bradley (ironically)?

Overhand, the next fight will definitely take place in the States and Maidana is better known over there than Prescott due to his series of high profile fights. Khan hasn't turned his back on Britain full time, but his camp are pretty pissed off about the way Sky de-PPVd the McCloskey fight at the last minute, whereas they still got a good lump sum from HBO in the States. Their TV situation in Britain still needs to be negotiated, but that isn't the case in the US, where HBO (through Golden Boy) are very supportive of Khan. As I mentioned, HBO want Khan-Maidana II because the first fight was one of the best of last year, plus Maidana and Khan are both with Golden Boy so it'll be dead easy to make. My understanding is that Khan will be going out to Los Angeles to start training next week and that there will be an announcement about his next opponent before he leaves. Also of interest is that it seems Alex Ariza is set to come back on board.

think guerrero would be incredibly dangerous opponent for Khan. Was awesome against Katsidis and would be a massive step up in class for Amir

Is this a sign that team khan are maybe taking a step back and actually allowing Amir to get the necessary preparation?

Is it that Amir has 'gone way back' in his last two, or is it just that Amir was boxing more challenging & lively opponents? Salita was nothing and Kotelnik and Malignaggi are small & weak.

Hell, I thought he looked pedestrian against Malignaggi.

The machine is tip top, the person operating it may lack a few basic motor functions.
yes, no, and yes, basically, IMO.

i did think he looked good against Paulie, and exactly because he was really committing to his jab; more pedestrian than usual, and thats possibly a good thing, seeing as he was setting his feet and really stepping into his jab with feet planted and weight coming through with the punch

but i think it should be obvious, at this point, that in world boxing terms, Khan's in-ring IQ is poor and is never likely to get much better.

I don't except McCloskey as a more challenging opponent than Kotelnik. Khan kept up his boxing against Kotelnik and beat him like nobody else has ever looked close to doing, but the only other time he has been able to keep to this gameplan was against St Clair.

I think a rematch against Maidana would see a lot more composed performance from Khan as I can't see him wanting to be dragged into a war like last time. A Judah fight is interesting though.

But who knows, maybe Amir now thinks he can start walking through people???

I'd like Judah as the opponent, Khan can fight Maidana any time this year — it would be good to see him up against someone different in July, for us and for him in terms of development

agreed, I think Kotelnik would handle McCloskey with ease, too.

If it can't be Bradley, then Judah is the logicial step, but I think Judah will look to milk the IBF belt as long as possible and only unify against someone he knows he can beat when Khan has moved to welter. Aside from him Maidana and Prescott are the only people I'd like to see Khan in a ring with next.

cant believe some of the posters on here....if khan bradley is not going to happen the the next best fight is with judah. hes fast , can punch and generally loses focus during fights ...khan is fast , a decent puncher, and generally loses focus during fights. i reckon it would be a much more interesting fight than the bradley one. if khan can beat judah he might just possibly compete with bradley. FTR - i think judah would ko khan
