Sumbu Kalambay, most underrated boxer ever???

Post by s9s »

Is this guy never mentioned or what?! Take a look at who he has beaten, for world and european titles.

Herol Graham (twice)
Iran Barkley
Mike McCullum
Robbie Sims
Doug DeWitt
Steve Collins,

A very impressive list, has anyone seen him fight? What was he like and anyone know what he's upto?

Imm sure if he was British or American he'd have a lot more mentions on this board, instead of African born living in Italy.

I've got about 10 of his fights. He was a counterpuncher with great defence and ring generalship.Sort of a mixture between Toney and mayweather in terms of style, though i think he was smoother than both of them.

He probably gets forgotten due to the disastrous Nunn KO in his highest profile fight and because he didn't get much exposure in America.

I still can't understand how the Nunn fight could've ended that way. This one and McGirt v. Howard Davis Jr were two I figured had the 'over' covered.

Sumbu Kalambay was a very slick boxer. In the second fight against Mike Mccallum, he nearly won also. Very close. Against Michael Nunn he simply got caught cold - these things happen.

Last year a saw Kalambay in the KB Hallen stadium in Copenhagen. He is training italian heavyweight Paolo Vidoz. (Vidoz fight against Steffen Nielsen was called of)

If interested, I have 11 of his fights on tape.

Living in Italy, he was also known as Patrizio Kalambay.
