Braehmer-Cleverly off
Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
If this remains a PPV - well it makes the Amir Khan "farce" (as described a certain promoter) look like a good promotion. It will stink of double standards by Sky. McCloskey vs Khan was AGREED by Sky as PPV worthy and that fight stayed on.

yeah...for some reason i had a feeling this was gonna happen.orbtastic wrote:predictable
surely the best option would have been to declared it vacant and got a late replacement in to fight for the title on saturday?
Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Cut in training apparently, has he even been in the UK to promote the fight at all?Chambers2 wrote:Any reasons been stated as to why he's pulled out??
It's the most frustrating sport in the World, gotta feel for Cleverly after all the hard work he'll have put in
I was looking forward to this one far more than Groves vs Degale - Sky have done a remarkable job to hype that as an even money 50:50 fight - insinuating that Groves has his number and getting to Degale. Performance wise of late it would suggest a slight gulf in class.
Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Maybe if Clev wasn't already interim champ. It's rare (can't think of a time) that the title is declared vacant if there's already an interim champ, they usually just upgrade them.apophenic wrote:yeah...for some reason i had a feeling this was gonna happen.orbtastic wrote:predictable

Odd that the WBO have stripped him, maybe they're just bored of waiting for him to fight.

He was at one of the press conferences, not sure where it was but he was definitely there.stujones wrote:Cut in training apparently, has he even been in the UK to promote the fight at all?Chambers2 wrote:Any reasons been stated as to why he's pulled out??

He's pulled out because he sustained an eye injury 10 days ago and hoped it would heal but it hasn't.Chambers2 wrote:Any reasons been stated as to why he's pulled out??

That's the news on ssn anyway

they seem to have made their decision very quickly...unless of course they were already aware of the situation..orbtastic wrote:Maybe if Clev wasn't already interim champ. Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
second pull out at short notice when he's due to be fighting on foreign soil for Braehmer, the WBO do right to strip him, it's unfortunate that every title that Clev has won has been a vacant one, but that's beyond his control, hopefully he'll still get to fight on saturday against someone half decent.
Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Don't wish to tempt fate or anything, but if Clev does defend his title on Saturday and something goes wrong - shortest world title reign in history?
I'm sure everything will be okay, and he'll have a long reign - would have been one for Norris McWhirter (RIP) to answer.

whens that swansea play off game?? you could always hang around for that and get behind your fellow countrymen!Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:They said all along that unless he fought he was gonna be stripped, based on his previous pull outs.orbtastic wrote:Maybe if Clev wasn't already interim champ. Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
It is a disgrace, but as there were virtually no reports on his training, no quotes from him coming out to defend his title etc then hopefully a good operator has been placed on stand-by for Saturday night.The_Don1 wrote:second pull out at short notice when he's due to be fighting on foreign soil for Braehmer, the WBO do right to strip him, it's unfortunate that every title that Clev has won has been a vacant one, but that's beyond his control, hopefully he'll still get to fight on saturday against someone half decent.

Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Bollocks! Terrible news will the card still be PPV?
Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Yeah that’s why I think it woulda been better to let clev vs whoever to fight it out in the ring for the title rather than just awarding it to him….stujones wrote:Don't wish to tempt fate or anything, but if Clev does defend his title on Saturday and something goes wrong - shortest world title reign in history?

Must be a strange psychological situation to be in to have all the build up focussing on winning the title…on ripping it away from the champ…only to have it awarded to you and your shot at the title turn into a defence of the title…

You would think any top light-heavy starved of opportunities would train for the same date as Braehmer with his history. We all saw it coming. Im going on Saturday and am not even that dissapointed as i more than half expected it.

Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
Tris Dixon has tweeted that he has spoke to Warren and he still plans to go ahead on Box office!
No way can a British title fight headline a PPV supported by a late replacement for Cleverly. If SKY pulled the plug on Khan being Box office then they should do the same here. Even Bellew or Enzo Mac wouldn't bring this up to a PPV unfortunately.
Such a shame for Cleverly who must have been working so hard for his shot.

Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
It really can be THE most frustrating sport in the world at times boxing can.
There ought to be some way of getting either a reduction on the ticket or a refund in the event of stuff like this happening as lots of people would have bought tickets to see that fight and while I'm sure there are terms and conditions which prevent any refund/reduction people are not getting what they originally paid for.
Am sure Warren won't give two hoots given that most of the tickets are already sold and many of the PPV's already bought but there should be some mechanism in place here to protect the fans.

WBO mandatories for the next 10 years?
Let's hope not...

degale / groves alone is a far more interesting and potentially entertaining fight than khan / mcloskey ever was...doctorboxing wrote:Tris Dixon has tweeted that he has spoke to Warren and he still plans to go ahead on Box office!

I can't see Frank risking Bellewyet, because he can make that in to a really big fight!!doctorboxing wrote:Tris Dixon has tweeted that he has spoke to Warren and he still plans to go ahead on Box office!

Re: Braehmer-Cleverly off
I agree 100% but it is a British title fight, not a world title fight. We surely can't set the precedent that entertaining 50:50 British title fights are to be PPV?apophenic wrote:degale / groves alone is a far more interesting and potentially entertaining fight than khan / mcloskey ever was...doctorboxing wrote:Tris Dixon has tweeted that he has spoke to Warren and he still plans to go ahead on Box office!
