Well said mate! Give it to him fred! win or lose you will do us all proud!kylamy wrote:RAB2204 wrote:anyword on how he went? what time will he be fighting??
Just got a call from Steve Deller and the team over there an hour ago, All is good, Fred's preparation has been terrific, and they are enjoying all the sights of Tokyo.
I gave them the heads up where to visit for all the bargains and best food etc etc.
The fight will be approx 8-30pm this evening, I will have, and will post the result here immediately it ends, Fred weighed in last night at just 51kg, his opponent Ryo Akaho was 52-1, just under the Super Fly/Jnr Bantam weight limit.
At 51kg, it shows Fred can, and will make Flyweight, that is their intention as well in future, so much for those know it all experts who were gonna train him and fight him at Junior Feather/Super Bantam 55-33kg
I agree with everyone, this is a hard fight, but a winnable fight, Good on Fred, he is willing to stand up and take a hard fight, Akaho has not fought anyone of any real note, yes he's 15-0 with 2 draws and 9 Ko's, but he's best performance was in stopping Furukawa and drawing with Nakahiro, I know both these guys, i know they had good amateur careers and Akaho did well against them, but apart from those two, he's only fought average Joe's, and he's only fought away from the Korakuen Hall in Suidobashi/Korakua twice, been pretty well protected until now.
Fred is really confident, he has his wife and some family members there, and a few fighter's from the fortitude gym went as well, so he has a good team there for support, let's hope he can get the gold and come home a champion, eitherway, he will still have a bright future in the sport, he's with a terrific team who know what theyre doing and care for him.
Go Freddie.

Hi Guys,
I'm sorry to say that Fred lost via TKO 5 tonight in Tokyo.
Just got the news he sustained a broken jaw early in round 2, but battled on until Steve Deller stopped the fight at the end of the 5th round, he just called from the hospital where they are waiting for xray's.
He said, Fred fought like a true warrior and was in the fight, but sadly tonight was not his night.
Cheers,
Brad Vocale

Yeah thanks Dale, Good to catch up with you last week, Ill definately see you in Bairnsdale on Saturday.
I spoke to Steve late last night, He said Fred had a real go, but walked into a huge left hook bomb early in round 1 and was hurt, but then he came back and possibly won round 2, only to get knocked down again twice in third, but the broken lower jaw in two places did not help his cause as he battled on, Steve would not let him come out for the 5th, wise move, it appears that Akaho is a better fighter than we gave him credit for.
Steve said the size difference was unreal, they had to feed Fred to get him up to 51kg, he is really only just a flyweight or lighter, and that's where they'll be fighting him in future, he had 3 meals everyday during training and even ate prior to the weigh-in and he still weighed just over the 50-8kg flyweight limit for a Super flyweight fight.
Deller said he is disappointed, but remained positive, saying it was just not his night, Fred loved the big fight atmosphere and will bounce back.
Personally, I think he'll learn more from a loss than a win over a nobody, and when he get's back, as a flyweight and a huge flyweight at that, hopefully he'll re-connect and get going again for another tilt on the international stage, I beleive he has got it, and we have not seen his best just yet, let's just hope he can get over this setback first.
Interesting stuff, I'm told the Japanese people loved him and many waited outside the Korakuen hall to see him walk off and they gave him an standing ovation, Fred loves the attention, the little bugger has that ability to make everyone like and want to be around him.
Even Doug Yamamoto an acquantaince of mine who works in the Tokyo Green hotel in Suidobashi where theyre staying, emailed me to say how all the staff at the hotel fell in love with the Little General, they all wait to serve him in the restaurant and just all stand around admiring him as he eats, etc etc
Doug studied out here on the Gold Coast and i've stayed at that hotel for 10 years on and off, he told me Fred made everyone laugh, and all the staff want to look after him, bloody cheeky little bugger.
I bet he get's all the girls too, I reckon??? lol
Cheers
Brad

They ain't experts & never claimed to be. Unlike you, who couldn't train a male dog to piss on a tree :Pkylamy wrote:RAB2204 wrote:anyword on how he went? what time will he be fighting??

Da Voice proved correct. Hope Fred can bounce back. He needs to fight at his correct weight and really get more active and ring wise. Hopefully this will happen
Re: Fred Mundraby to fight in Tokyo Japan
It's hard for guys @ his weight to get quality fights with locals to prepare them when they step up.
He needs to be matched with quality imports, but quality = $$$$
Given the injury, I think it'll be back to square one in 8 to 12 months for young fella.

Re: Fred Mundraby to fight in Tokyo Japan
I was genuinely concerned & fuming on match-up, hence my initial comment.
All I could visual @ the time, purpose of the fight was $$$ & payday for a certain junket boy. He was simply thrown in @ the deep end.
The only decent opponent since April 2009 was Roberto Lerio. Subsequent 4 opponents were predictably walk in the park...nothing more than sparring session.
