I'm sure you're right, I should've said 'Cleverly's people'. If they're equally up for it on his behalf, then that's great.taffytoon wrote:Nathan has no worries fighting Tonycharlieb wrote:I'd buy it with or without Cleverly on the bill, but I'd love to see this come off.
There's the built-in excuse of a short notice change of opponent on both sides, both are under Wazza's umbrella, so whovever loses won't be in freefall as far as a comeback goes.
I'm not optimistic though, surely those with Bellew's interests at heart would steer him clear until he's ready for the step up. That said, at 28 he's not getting any younger and he definitely has talent, not to mention the ability to end the fight with a single punch. It might turn out to be a calculated risk that pays off.
If the Groves/Degale fight is over in 1 or 2 rounds, having Cleverly in a well-matched fight, even if it goes the same way, will leave much less of a bitter taste.
Cleverly's got time on his side though, he might not want it. Why face a known puncher with potentially more risk attached than the original opponent when you could just fight a scrub and lay the blame at Braehmer's door. Which is perfectly unreasonable, although sh*t for us.

It's £15 for a night's boxing.
Equivalents:
60 B&H
An expensive round in a trendy winebar
An overpriced meal for two at somewhere like Pizza Express (one course, no drinks) !
Five miles in a taxi
If two people go halves and get a few bottles in and some snacks; you've got a good night for a score each. Done.
And you've never been Pizza Express if you think a meal for two can be had for £15.00
I did say one course, no drinks

Exactly this for me too. I have been slagging the PPV status of this card to anyone who would listen but am fairly sure I would have caved in.Dan Dares wrote:apophenic wrote:aye.

In this instance, I just have to see Groves V DeGale. I would break out in cold sweats knowing it was happening and I wasn't seeing it.

Definitely. This morning I was planning on going to the pub sat night to see GG/DeGale, but if this one goes ahead then I'll pay.
Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
Not quite. The complaints stem from it being £15 despite the pull out of Braehmer and his replacement with a domestic rival. So to follow up your analogy....Black Sam Bellamy wrote:PPV Hysteria. I don't really follow it, especially when the tickets are upwards of £50 a pop each.

I, too, find it wierd. If Bomber didn't post on here they would be a scathing attack going on right about now.MachoMan09 wrote:Am I right in thinking there are people on here who didn't think this card was PPV material when it was going to feature a reigning world champion but now it isn't and he's been replaced by Tony Bellew it is? Yep 2 great fights - plus funtime frankie, billy joe and sam sexton.gasman wrote:I will happily pay my 15 quid for Bellew-Cleverly and Degales-Groves. Let's hope we get at least four live fights and no more of marathon analysis and that big effing touchscreen.
Thats a good bill - id rather it was free but i'll definatley pay. I may have begrudged paying if the title fight wasnt on mind , but i would have still paid for groves v degale i would have just complained about having to do it.
Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
Macho, I don't think it's strange for people to be excited about a world title fight for a guy that they have some sort of interaction with. Bellew has a lot of followers on here both due to his knockouts and the way he comes across when he posts, people want to see him do well.
Also, couple it with the fact that everyone was expecting some faceless guy from Europe whose record on boxrec would complete most peoples knowledge on him. People were down one minute, then up the next.

To be fair if your a british boxing fan bellew is well known as the common wealth champion and the bellew / cleverley rivalry has been stiring for about 2 or so years as they were/are both the two up and coming british prospects featured on sky.
Its two fights with 4 top british prospects duking it out. One for the lonsdale one for the WBO world title. How often do we get these type of fighters butting heads at these stages in their careers?
Bellew posting on here gets people biasedly wanting him to win and builds extra interest but its a good match up to begin with.
We have automatically gained another british world champion regardless of the result. RULE BRITANNIA!!!!

Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
This is a worse matchup than Clev-Braehmer, so no. Bomber has only had a few days notice and has never proven himself past British level (allthough I think he could eventually develop into an EBU type of guy). Clev will win a one-sided fight.
If people care about nationality so much why do they always complain about the typically all British prizefighter? It seems to me like the only thing better about Bellew-Clev than Braehmer-Clev is the fact that both are British fighters.

To be fair, this has been a much talked about match up on here for a while, only calming down recently due to their different form (both unbeaten still, though). Its up there with Hatton-Witter and Calzaghe-Froch as a much debated Boxrec bout!

Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
For me it's the knife edge drama that the big punchers bring, Groves & Bellew. With the unpredictable factor that they could "go" just as easily as land the bombs and pull of a sensational win: you can't take your eyes off it.
They're both big underdogs against world class opposition, but to be honest I actually give Bellew the better chance here. He's a huge puncher and he might catch an over confident Clev early. Clev is very brave and likes a tear up, but he probably hasn't faced someone who can punch like Bellew. Big favorite the Welshman of course, but there's a chance of a shock here I reckon.

well that and alot of people havent in all honesty seen braehmer the petty criminal fight before.crusader wrote:This is a worse matchup than Clev-Braehmer, so no. At this point I believe that Braehmer has shown himself to be a bigger puncher than Bellew. I don't think anyone should be called a huge puncher unless they show the ability to hurt someone who is better than British level. Imo Braehmer's one round destruction of Brancalion says more about his power than any of Bomber's results. This isn't to say that I think Bomber lacks power, but I do think that he needs a bit more time to work on some things and to prove himself against a higher tier of opposition. In addition, with such short notice he is going to be a much lesser version of his typical self.
If Bomber happened to be an African who didn't post on BoxRec this bout would be completely trashed. I understand that being British and a BoxRec regular make the bout more enticing for particular fans though, and there is nothing wrong with that. I tend to care more about the credibility of each man involved rather than where they are from or where they post, but that’s just me.

Yes, that is true, and because of that I can understand why a lot of people are excited about this one. I just think that it will be hard for Bellew to put up a competitive effort on such short notice, and I predict that a lot of fans are going to be disappointed by this, even though it should seem obvious that Bellew was never going to be near his best (which still wouldn't be quite good enough, imo).
Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
massive underdog and not on the same level at this point in time or maybe ever, but nether the less a dangerous guy to be in the ring with and usually very exciting. Also the best opponent in britain.crusader wrote:Yes, that is true, and because of that I can understand why a lot of people are excited about this one. if he looses he can come again and it will be good experience. Its not like he wouldnt have a valid excuse for a poor peformance. He could have chosen to bang up low level opponents for the next year or so instead, padding out his record. nice to see a hungry up and comer who doesnt have to take a dangerous fight but goes out of his way to take the shot anyway.

Re: Will people buy PPV if Bellew goes on bill?
For a PPV it is not exactly packed out with matchups but it has the potential to be an exciting night and £15 is just about 3 beers at the O2. I'm not a sky sports subscriber but if I was I'd be annoyed at having to pay extra for this - seems like 90% of sky subs just goes to footballers. I won't be able to watch it live so I'll have to d/l in the morning. Otherwise I'd probably buy it and have a night in.

This fight will probably generate more income for the show than the Braehmer fight! Tony will no doubt have a few coming down with him and loads in Liverpool will buy the fight now. He will be getting less than Braehmer, too.
