Predictions for Cleverly V Bellew?

Post by johnswan1 »

This is an intriguing bout and will potentially be even better than Cleverly-Braehmer would have been.

Has Bellew bitten off more than he can chew on such short notice, and will Cleverly be mentally affected by the drop out of Braehmer?

Would love Bellew to win being originally from Merseyside myself but can't see past Cleverly on points or even a late tko.

Massive Bomber fan but this has come too soon.

Clev wide on points. Maybe forcing a late stoppage.

I'd see it more a 50/50 down the line.

I don't think Cleverly's quite got the power to ko Bomber, so I'm going for a UD for the champ.

But if Bellew lands a good'un on Cleverly's whiskers.....

I think it'd be a series of shots that would force the stoppage for Clev, going on the premise that Tony will run out of steam.

Bombers only chance is a early KO..Id fancy Cleverly even if both boxers had full notice, the welshman in 5rounds is my prediction, but id love Bomber to do it....If Bellew does get lucky&knock him out(which is possible)he will be boxing in world class from then on,but i dont believe if is world class at this time....

Agree to a certain extent but I just can't see how Bellew can outbox Cleverly. Clev is in a different league as a boxer and only a ko can win Bellew the fight in my opinion.

I disagree. Ajisafe and Mckenzie can hardly be quoted as being huge punchers and both had Bellew in trouble. I dont recall seeing Clev on the deck yet?

Bellew might test him early on but I think Cleverly will come on strong in later rounds for a comfortable points win.

Not necessarily outbox Clev, but at least it'll allow his punches to flow better as opposed to going for the big shot.

Cleverly, mid-to-late stoppage. If Bellew's fit enough, maybe he could hang on until the end.

i really don't get why people have Cleverley down as this silky boxer

for about his last 8 fights he's piled forward throwing loads of punches- and taking quite a few as well

he's way more Pavlik than he is Conteh, IMO. but because he's tall and rangy people expecrt him to be a boxer-type and label him as such. which just seems weird bearing in mind he seems to make a point of getting hammered across the chops repeatedly

i'll say the same thing i've said before- clev has literally NO previous form that i have seen fighting like a 'boxer' at ANY kind of level. every proper fight he has been in he has come out trying to throw 70-odd punches per round, and got smacked around the chops repeatedly in the process. i'd wait to see if he can slip the odd punch or throw the odd feint before labelling him any kind of 'boxer', myself.

I agree, he puts his punches together very well but is not a defensive master by any means. His intelligence (have they mentioned his degree) maybe fools people into believing he's a thinking boxer. Maybe similar to early Carl Froch in fooling some into overrated his defensive capabilities

I still think he will win but Bomber will land (and before anyone starts Braehmer would have landed as well) and a lot will depend on how both fighters react. I'll go with a late TKO win with Bomber up on his feet after a knock down or two.

The main thing, I would be very surprised if the fight is in anyway boring

Agree with this. I like his desire and his workrate but his boxing ability looks woeful to me. People see he has a maths degree and assume that that equates to being savvy in the ring - but if they actually watched his fights closely, they'd see that it doesn't. He also doesn't seem to know how to throw a right hand. It's like flapping a soggy dishrag.

i think cleverley will stay close with Bomber taking his power away and just wear him down over the rounds.

Bombers best chance is to keep it long and try catch him with power shot which we know he has .

i expect alot of tapping of chins adn bravado from both guys while this lasts
More so from Cleverly who has a decent chin so far.

Hats off to Tony stepping in and great oppertunity for him and obviously some decent cash for saving the show of sorts. :TU:

I think this will be a very entertaining and exciting fight.

Cleverly has the physical height and reach to box but he seems to ignore them and tries to outwork and grind his opponents down.

The obvious needle between the both is likely to favour Bellew, as Cleverly is going to stand and trade - which is playing into Bellew’s hands.

I'm naturally supporting Nathan but wish he would make things easier for himself and box but he won't and certainly not in this fight.

Cleverly win and I think he can force the stoppage in the mid rounds but he risks getting tagged, needlessly.

The good thing about this fight is that it is now as interesting to the wider audience than when Braehmer was involved.

Looks a bit knife edge for TB, seeing how gaunt he looked there, Clev seems pretty certain as well, saying he's got no legs. How come TB looks like that after 24 hours making weight, seems very odd ?
