he wanted to see if he could negate audleys jabb, but got bored of waiting. Also wanted to make sure audley wasnt going to be able to land the left one the way in when he finally decided to engage, lurring him into a false sense of security by staying away.

If you notice the replay Harrison did actualy throw the left hook but haye had tricked him into thinking he was respecting his power, so he wasnt ready for haye to suddenly pounce and go to war. By the time he had thrown the punch haye's left was about 6 inches away from connecting with his chin and it landed first. We all know the rest of the story.

Haye says that he loves fighting tall upright fighters & i can see why. After glancing at his record i'd guess the 2nd, 3rd & 4th opponents were Audley, Enzo and Alexander Gurov. All were sitting ducks for the fast straight shots.
3 fighters with questionable chins, 2 of these fighters not much bigger (if at all) than Haye. Haye posed and pissed about vs Audley for 2 rounds and then lept in like a novice and Audley, being the fighter he is, didn't have an answer other than look scared.

Indeed, similarly vs Enzo - now a much better everything than Harrison (except the chin). First round, Haye did nothing and again he lept in a bit novice like and there was nothing from Enzo - no punch (even in desperation) to a relatively open Haye or not any defensive movement - at the end of it, Haye's speed, his legs speed, was too quick for Maccarinelli's reactions and yes Enzo did make mistakes. Mistakes Klitchsko has done in the past I might add, but quite a distance past now.

Now, wins are win - but both the Haye and the Enzo fight ended with wild, clumsy, novice like attacks against opponents making mistake. There is not the in an out of Holyfield, or the slip and move of a Tyson - he's caught both when they were literatally off guard.... and yep - he did the exact same thing against the biggest fighter ever, but again there was no consistency there, otherwise he could have done it much earlier and more regularly to put the fight beyond doubt. Again it was a run and leap and "hope for the best".

Fantastic speed to get away with it, so I don't intend to do Haye a disservice - and it worked for Corrie Sanders also.
Are you on crack? Haye is a natural finisher. In both cases he landed a big shot, knew he could end it there and did. OK, so he smothered some of his work in trying to seal the deal, but this was a function of how little was coming back. Calling his finishes 'leaping in like a novice' is ridiculous. Haye's timing and accuracy are second to none, in both cases he sat back and measured his opponent for the right hand. Once it connected, it was time to close the show, he stepped in with trademark big, fast shots to seal the deal and did, what more do you want from him? He wasn't overly worried about being hit in return by his sagging opponent in either case, which is why he will be more restrained against Wlad. Haye surely knows he can't finish Wlad with one flurry (unless he lands some pearlers) and I'm pretty sure he'll be potshotting and going for shorter combos and getting out again.

The Haye Wlad fight brings to mind something Clive Tyldesley said in 1999 in the dying minutes of United/Munich CL final when Bayern led 1-0: 'Can Manchester United score? They ALWAYS score'
Here: 'Can Haye land? He ALWAYS lands'

Why did he allow the first round to be so embarrassingly bad then?

What did Haye gain by being involved in a round with so little action?

I think that the only thing that Haye was scared of in the Harrison fight was the reaction of the crowd if he finished Aud off too early.

He finished him, I think, at the earliest moment he felt the crowd wouldn't give the fighters a ration of sh1t for stinking the place out. But, as soon as he tried, it was all over, let's face it, so he was waiting for something.

jesus, when did this law arise that says you're not allowed to feel your opponent out?

Haye always takes a round or two to size up his foe...what's the problem??

Audley was awkward to hit clean because of his size and negativity so Haye was just waiting for an opening.

He cracked John Ruiz in exactly the same way so even though that's true it may not have made any difference.
In the first round? Ruiz was dead square on.

You are probably right, as Haye always looks very relaxed in the ring and up for it, which is exiting to see. I only posed this question as Harrison really wasn't doing anything at all, and Haye seemed quite respectful of his potential power.People seem to think I am well wide of the mark with this, so I am happy to stand corrected.

I am just very excited about July 2nd, and trying to envisage all scenario's.
What potential power? That was the thing that did my head in about the build up to that fight, from somewhere Audley suddenly developed a massive punch that Haye had to be wary of on the back of knocking Sprott out in a Prizefighter where he was dead on his feet.
You've imagined that.

I suppose, what I am asking is this: can he afford to have two feeling out rounds against Wladimir, which will allow him to get into a rythm + Wlad make him pay for any mistake he makes.I think people are underestimating just how good Wladimir is.

My gut feeling is that Haye is going to have to be very aggressive very quickly to win this one. It's a really exciting fight to try and predict.

That was the worst first round of a fight I have seen. If Haye wasn't at all scared then why didn't he throw more punches?

What are people's thoughts?
Haye had to wait till round 3 to cash in on the bet that he made on himself.
He was in the money!

I really do think that he was worried about the reaction when he knocked him out with the first concerted attack.

The only Haye was scared of was the fight ending in the first round. Despite the fight being an epic farce at least it was a 3 round farce and not a 1 round farce.

That whole affair still leaves a foul taste.
