Bellew too heavy ?
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
Typical, all talk knowing good and well he couldn't make the weight. Bang out of order ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
Sky are obviously stipulating Title or no PPV.
Where is this Polish guy? Is he there? What is his weight like?

Re: Bellew too heavy ?
Didn't Bellew say the BBBofC had done a check weigh in and it was all ok? I'm sure he said that at the presser? Unless they have had another one and he hasn't shifted anything else?
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
fornicate sky I want a refund one potential 50 50 fight on the bill its a joke!stujones wrote:Sky are obviously stipulating Title or no PPV.

Re: Bellew too heavy ?
Surely sky have to pull the plug on ppv or at the very least show us all the undercard fights.
As for the farce today it makes for great promotion to a future Cleverly v Bellew fight.
Good actors boxers these days aren't they.

Its hardly his fault though is itleforge wrote:Warren lucky sky put up with all pull outs on his bills. I dont want to see Cleverely v Polish nobody! Never will buy a ticket for his show again.
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
Brahmer maybe not, but this one it shows a lack of proffesionalism - cannot blame Saurland now. Surely the weight could have been checked out before shouting it out to the world, making a press conference..... Bellew is his fighter also.Camcas wrote:Its hardly his fault though is itleforge wrote:Warren lucky sky put up with all pull outs on his bills. I dont want to see Cleverely v Polish nobody! "But at a check weigh-in Bellew came in at over 13 stone with the light-heavyweight limit set at 12st 7lb"
I wonder wonder how much over? Gutted for Bellew.

Why get peoples hopes up for Bellew then. I wont be buying a ticket for Mitchell v Murray can see that falling through too!stujones wrote:Brahmer maybe not, but this one it shows a lack of proffesionalism - cannot blame Saurland now. Re: Bellew too heavy ?
I can see that peoples trust is being eroded. What is being promised (promoted) and what is being delivered are not matching up.
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
For people who are calling me for not making weight I'd lost 13 of 20 pounds needed, I wanted more time but after spending 2 1/2 hours in the sauna and only losing 1/2 pound it was not moving anymore! Anyone who thinks I'm lying then you all know members of my team watched me do it, I had 48hrs, I tried as hard as I could and was willing to put it all on the line, I wasn't being disrespectful at all, I was called a bum and then that's when it went a bit crazy!! I'm far far from a bum and tried my best to give the fans a fight they wanted to see.
I respect the board saying enough is enough as they are concerned and liable should I get injured so I will not dispute there decision, I'm truly gutted I couldn't shift that last 6/7 pounds I really am!! All I'll say about it is I gave it everything I possibly could.. Sorry to people I let down too! :(

The build up will need a 24/7 type of program! Needle between them is quality.WelshDevil wrote:Its definately a fight for the future now. Gonna be fun.DD

I'm lookiing forward to it - the hate in the press conference was genuine. I have no idea where it started but I'm sure Warren will make this fight.jBacca wrote:The build up will need a 24/7 type of program! Re: Bellew too heavy ?
i gave full respect to Tony Bellew when he was first mentioned s stepping in.
Also questioned his weight...
Surely such a boiled down fighter could never have been expected to be taking the fight at late notice?
Unlucky Tony. I'm sure you did try your best.
Now don't come unstuck before the Cleverly fight can be made properly.

Re: Bellew too heavy ?
more likely the tickets have "world championship boxing" on them leaving Warren wide open if there was no world title?stujones wrote:Sky are obviously stipulating Title or no PPV.
Warren also commented on sky it wouldnt be fair on clev giving tony a 10lb weight advantage

Re: Bellew too heavy ?
You've not let anyone down.It was brave of you to step in like that at such short notice. It shows the calibre of a man to do that, I think. Also, it was an entertaining press conference.Hopefully you and Cleverely will get matched together in the near future and you can have proper time to prepare.Bomber 1 wrote:For people who are calling me for not making weight I'd lost 13 of 20 pounds needed, I wanted more time but after spending 2 1/2 hours in the sauna and only losing 1/2 pound it was not moving anymore! I'm looking forward to your rematch with Ovil Mckenzie, which I think you will win. Also, don't let anyone convince you that you are vulnerable because of the first fight. The guy is a massive puncher himself, not someone who can't punch.I don't think many are as tough as him to be honest, and you still dusted him off.
Re: Bellew too heavy ?
The majority of stick that Tony's received is just a kneejerk response born out of frustration at having an eagerly anticipated match-up dangled in front of us and then snatched away on a technicality, albeit a completely legitimate one.
I don't think it was a ploy or some kind of device to con a few more PPV/ticket sales, it was just an attempt to salvage the show. Tony stepped up, Cleverly reciprocated and it didn't work out.
I'm sure if Tony had made the weight, turned up looking like Skeletor in the ring and suffered a brutal loss we'd all be up in arms about how reckless and idiotic it was to allow it to go ahead.
The fire's been well and truly stoked, so hopefully we'll get a primed and healthy Bellew coming off a barnstorming win over Mckenzie ready to step up against Cleverly in a title shot that's had months of needle to bring it to boil.
It's a painful pill to swallow in the short-term but I'm sure hindsight will put it all into perspective.
