Something to consider, which I don't believe anyone has mentioned here yet, is that Cleverly was training to fight a southpaw, and Bellew is orthodox. Bellew was already training to fight an orthodox boxer, so no alteration for him there.

I can't help but go back to my gut reaction after seeing Tony in dire straits against McKenzie. I just couldn't get over how slow and open he seemed to be.

If you'd asked me how he'd fare against Cleverly back then, I'd have said he had no chance, he'd receive an absolute pasting.

It's funny how time can skew perspective, I'm not as bleak about his chances as I was. I've managed to convince myself that Cleverly's a sucker for getting involved, and unless he's able to completely shut down Bellew and relieve him of his senses (and legs), straight off the bat, I think Bellew's could make some serious hay in exhanges.

I didn't rate Cleverly prior to the Murat fight but he looked to be genuinely world class that night. After that fight I thought with the right matchmaking he could go quite far, just as long as he steered clear of the top boxer-punchers with real power, like Cloud and Pascal, Diaconu even. Bellew hasn't proven he belongs anywhere near that bracket yet, but he can bang, potentially harder than the above mentioned. Cleverly has to be very, very careful.

Head says Cleverly, but Bellew has a puncher's chance.
