Cleverly's next opponent
Cleverly's next opponent
with nathan being handed the title from braehmer and getting to fight a 3rd choice replacement, he has to be looking to secure a big name for his next opponent.
he obviously has to concentrate on the job in hand and get by the tricky task of beating the unknown stand in and keeping his newly attained world title.
but if/when he get past him he has to be looking to get a real world champion in the ring as soon as possible. to be considered a credible champion.
braehmer would be the obvious pick for the next fight but that runs the risk of falling on it's face again. what chances do we think nathan has of getting one of the top 4 guys in the ring.
hopkins and pascal fighting this weekend or dawson or cloud. or even the inexplicable WBA world title holder beibut shumenov (how the hell did that guy get 2 title shots in his 9th/10th bouts BTW)
obviously, i'm really not sure if nathan is a big enough draw to get a fight against some of these names. in fact i can say with some certainty that bernard wont be fighting him next.
but the point stands, he need to now prove himself against a recognised world level opponent. a couple hand picked opponents, then an easy domestic fight really wont cut it this time, considering the way he landed the belt.

I'm not keeping up. However, not being able to make 175 pounds doesn't mean he could appear on the poster. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.Asterix wrote:Danny Green won't see 175 lbs again.DavidPayne wrote:Danny Green...............

Re: Cleverly's next opponent
you'd think the timing is perfect for cleverly to come through.
hopkins is 46 and if he can beat pascal, then cleverly could take it to the older man. with the right fine tuning, he could possibly well outwork the older man.
also, carl froch. he seems to be "eyeing light heavyweight", going by headlines you read now and then. if froch is eliminated from the super 6, cleverly would be in a good position to build himself on the back of a big UK name. if carl wins the super 6, then you have potential UK megafight (though, always harder to make the bouts when both guys are on top ofr their game and earning power...).
hopefully all goes well tonight. assuming he does, everything is in place for him. i will be curious to see how he is matched, and how long it takes for a good opponent to materialise. i wonder if things will be faster than, say, in the calzaghe era...

Re: Cleverly's next opponent
He will have to fight the mandatory next. Then I would expect him to face Bellew.

Re: Cleverly's next opponent
but has bellew created the demand, or has he lost credibility (with fans, the promoter, etc)?gobbles wrote:He will have to fight the mandatory next. Then I would expect him to face Bellew.
i'm hoping zsolt erdei is highly ranked and gets a shot, because he never lost that title in the ring.

Re: Cleverly's next opponent
Luis Garcia would beat Nathan. Luis would KO Nathan withing 6 rounds I have no doubt every punch Luis throws he wants to take the opponents head clean off. Within 6-12 months if Nathan takes the gamble against Luis then we shall have a new champion.
