cant believe groves bet his purse!
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
The funny thing was the look on Bellew's face when Groves shook his hand. He gave a look to Booth like "he's mad".
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
Yeah I spotted that too, was well funny.gobbles wrote:The funny thing was the look on Bellew's face when Groves shook his hand. He gave a look to Booth like "he's mad".
Especially as Bellew had been going off like a nutter a few minutes before and now was looking at Groves like 'this guy is crazy!'.
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
That's because DeGale created his own language to arrange it. He's the worst talker around. :xorbtastic wrote:I had to laugh when Groves had to get someone to explain what the bet meant.
I'm glad the bet is null. It only came about because DeGale can't think of any other way to win a psychological battle.

At one of the earlier pressers, Jimmy Mac was chirping up gegging in the arguments with Chunk and Georgie. Thought it was over the top and he should have kept out of it. Seems to be a bit of a divvy.charlieb wrote:Yeah, was thinking the same. On the Ringside head to head when it was first announced, Degale offered him a bet, George jumped up and offered his hand to which James changed the subject and started going on about Groves' tie.
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
bbbc said the bets off ! its all bullshit anyway.
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
Mugabi, Dirrell is not a bad fighter at all and in open sparring fighters do get smacked a bit.mugabi wrote:yeah a master trick by degale, groves was put on the spot, what else could he do but accept given he had no way of talking his way out and booth sat there like a lame bum and allowed his man to be upstaged.mahatma wrote:when he could of gone to a bookmaker via a friend of course and bet on himself at odds of probably 3-1, indstead of the even money he 'll end up getting and that if he wins which i doubt, so will end up with nothing -he got pulled in big time by degale there and no one seemed more excited than jim mcdonnell- who i think laid a bet with adam booth!
I really think under booth we are witnessing the ruination of a great british prospect.
Groves is a talented tough kid who should be allowed to develop at his own pace. Instead booth isnt protecting him. Booth talks to groves like a piece of shit if the anderson between rounds stuff was anything to go by, what exactly does booth have to offer by way of traing to a talent like groves, and why is he being beaten up in sparring by the likes of dirrel at this stage 12 fights into a promising career?
If booth is worth his cut he will excuse groves of this bet and yes he can use the, well get better odds at the bookies stuff.
As for jim mcdonnel just so embarrasing watching him jump around like ali g.
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
Andre Dirrell is one of the most talented boxers out there, imo. He's just also a bit crazy.

i agree.Asterix wrote:Andre Dirrell is one of the most talented boxers out there, imo. He's just also a bit crazy.
i think he's far more talented than ward or froch...but those two, particularly froch, have the heart to go with the talent..as does bute...it remains to be seen if dirrell has the same.

Agree with those saying Jim McDonnell didn't exactly cover himself in glory. He is clearly an excellent trainer and as a pro he was of the very highest level however I aint a fan about how he tries to get himself in the limelight at times. I remember after the 3rd Danny Williams v Michael Sprott fight, he was yapping over Michael Sprott in the post fight interview. I mean yeah it was a contentious decision but he wouldn't let the bloke speak and was just giving it the 'will you give him a rematch' every 3 seconds.
The way I read it, DeGale and Groves were making a bet, Jim had no business goading anyone.

I think Booth's one of the best trainers going! Between rounds in the Anderson fight he gave perfect advice
Re: cant believe groves bet his purse!
I agree that he is a good cornerman but I'm not 100% sold on him as a world class trainer yet. Goves, and to a certain extent Haye, seems to rely a lot more on natural ability than on craft learnt in the gym.alexpaterson wrote:I think Booth's one of the best trainers going! Can't knock what they've achieved though, so he must be doing something right.
