World Level Fighters

I have heard a lot of the British posters refer to fighters as national level and European level fighters. I am not too concerned with these levels. Beyond that there is world level/world class type fighters, I am curious to see what British fighters are considered to be World Level.

I mean obviously Khan, Froch, and Haye qualify. After these three obvious ones, is there anyone else considered to be a world class fighter?

At the moment, it's so hard to say, seeing as British fighters are match very much below world level. EG the guy Cleverley is fighting, looks to be a fringe European/Eu level challenger at best.

Until a British fighter takes on a beats a bona fide world level opponent, it's hard to say.

Obvisly Haye,Khan&Froch... Burns is a world champ but i dont think hes world level(martinez win flatterd him he wouldnt beat him again) Cleverly looks class but i think he will fall short against Pascal,Cloud&Dawson.... I like Barker but like Cleverly he would fail to hang wiv the top guns.. Then Degale,Price&Gavin there the three who Could be are next world champs after those already mentioned...Degale has that something about him that i dont like&Naz had that(then i got to like Naseem)class i think....Big Pricey could be coming thru at the right time&would beat all are boys bar Haye right now&could come on to the world stage at the right time....Then with Frankie Gavin maybe we have the best of the bunch with him,Just worried his power will let him down at top level,but that didnt stop Pernell Whitaker(who frankie said is his fav boxer) Frankie Gavin could be the british Whitaker

I think some of it is semantics.

There are obviously the world champs who have to be world class. Being at 'European level' can mean being at the stage of competing for a European title. But winning the EBU title often leads directly to a title shot. Fighters like Rhodes, Macklin and McClosky would probably just be considered world level contenders in the US but in Europe the presence of the EBU title complicates the picture.

The thing with Price is he really hasn't fought anyone of note yet. He got a bronze at the Olympics, and but after 10 pro fights we could do with seeing him now against a well know opponent- someone who would really test him.

Sprott? Skelton? Someone like that? But then people might start saying "Oh, it's far too early... " but why? If he is world class, he will need to be able to comfortably stop guys like these.

Get what you're saying mate but he's a bloke with one "world class" win, over a bloke who was world class because... Because he knocked out Nicky Cook. & since then Burnsy hasn't exactly been falling over himself to bring over a succession of tough Mexicans, Thais & South American former champions to cement his status as world class, has he? It's more the old-skool WBO route of "I've beaten a fringe-ish contender for a title, from now on you shall act as if I beat Alexis Arguello & Juan Manuel Marquez on the same night whilst I fight a succession of unheard of Africans".

I think that's why people are willing to put question marks against Burnsy. After all, Kev Mitchell beat Prescott, didn't he? But we saw what happened when the bar was raised again...

Kell Brook ? depends on how he would do against the top guys , impossible to say but i think hes world level but not Elite level .

Yeah- he does look to have real potential.

Along the same lines, lets not forget Ryan Rhodes- he has a world title shot coming up. He was ood against Moore- if he can come through and win the World title, he must be up there.

Good points made. I think there's defo a difference between being world class and being a world class contender. Barker is defo on the track to becoming a contender he's looking good.

i would say at this moment in time the answer is NO ! of course we would all love to see rhodes do well, cleverly and burns are up there but not proven yet, and of course we have loads of prospects, but right now its just the 3 you already mentioned

well surely he world class he beat a man who was rated world class so how does that stand burns not only because he only beat one world rated fighter
