He threw the fight away...

Post by Matt Teague »

After watching the Degale Groves fight last night. my thoughts on the fight were Groves stuck to his game plan and fought the best we'd seen him. Degale however seemed to tentative in letting his shots go, and waited for too long.

I do agree with allegedly when he said Degale threw the fight away.

Degale just never stepped on the gas enough in the middle rounds, I thought the fight could of gone either way and wouldnt of complained at a draw.

Full respect to Groves after this win, I would love to see a rematch.

On the other hand I had to cringe at Mitchell and Murray, surely this isnt an attempt to promote as P.P.V

I agree I thought DeGale was very surprised with the way Groves fought, and failed to adapt to it in time. It was about the 6th round he began to box better but was still struggling. I think DeGale and McDonnell were convinced they would outboxed George but when Groves was outboxing him DeGale looked reluctant to get inside, were he was most successful IMO. If he had got in more and mixed it up with Groves I think he'd of done better.

If hed have threw more shots i think he would have won the fight but he was always trying to look for the perfect shot and that stopped him from actually getting any decent shots at all

DeGale didn't give Groves enough respect & didn't prepare fully.

He thought all he had to do was turn up to win.

The sad thing is, if he had put as much effort into his preparation as he did into insulting & belittling Groves, he'd have won by a landslide.

I sincerely hope that Groves doesn't give him an immediate rematch, because he doesn't deserve one.

Let him work his way back up & they can meet again in the future.

Degale didn't turn up and fight a bad fight, George Groves did that!! Groves outsmarted him where it counted, and when it came down to it he was tough enough and good enough to do stop Degale doing anything about it.

James Degale, who in the lead up to relieving Mr Smith of his British title, was starting to come across like a real nice guy....and then for some stupid reason he decides to go and undo it with pathetic sniggering and suggesting that Groves' breath smelt and his tie looked silly....What a twerp.

Course when you've got a promoter who conducts himself with all the grace of a silly little playground brat, what can you expect?
