....I can't help thinking that a draw would have been the best and fairest result on Saturday night.
George executed a great game plan to frustrate James and steal rounds early on but spent the second half of the fight back-pedalling without really asserted the kind of authority you'd expect from. A champion.
Conversely, James looked the far superior combatant when he let his fists go but allowed George to bamboozle him (I hold the corner largely culpable here) and failed to sustain his workfare.
In my opinion, neither fighter did enough to win a title.
Looking ahead, considering he sneaked a paper thin decision that could've swung either way, some of George's talk of 'schooling James' concerns me and, against a more savvy opponent, I doubt he'd be able to pinch a title in the same way. I have a sneaking suspicion that sooner or later George will get badly exposed when he steps up and his career will go on a downward spiral.
On the other hand, IF James learns the lessons of Saturday night and is placed in an environment where his faults can be ironed out and his gifts can be honed, I can see a Khan-like ascendancy to a title.
This may actually be the best chance we have of a meaningful rematch (assuming George avoids calls for an immediate rubber match) as I fear that if George is stepped up quickly he's gonna be shop soiled.
