Nigel Benn. He's got everything in his life story to make a film. Wasnt he mates with carlton leach? or was it another gangland figure. Unlicensed boxing, the eubank grudge, the gman fight, to the retirement from boxing. I'd watch it.

Thats the one. His brother, Paul Sykes Junior is also doing life for murder! Paul was a jailbird and well known hardman who turned pro after coming out of prison. He boxed for the British title. The stories about him in Yorkshire are lengendary, they also vary wildly. Basically, the guy was a very dangerous, powerful, bully. Youtube him, there is some hilarious stuff on there from a documentary made on him in the 80's.

Yes, that's him. Sharp's father was Paul Sykes who fought for the British heavyweight title back in the late 1970s. Sykes was also an infamous criminal who spent much of his life in jail. There was a documentary made about him some twenty odd years ago called 'Paul Sykes: at Large', or something similar. It focused on Sykes' release from prison and his attempt to integrate back into mainstream society. The documentary is on YouTube if you are interested. I seem to recall Sykes being filmed in the gym doing heavy squats in one scene; it was very similar to the clip of Sharp in the gym last night on 'Strangeways'. I can't help thinking that Sharp was filmed weightlifting as a purposeful link to his father.

Sykes also wrote a book called 'Sweet Agony', which is now quite sought after. It's only a paper back but sells for over £50 a copy on e-bay or Amazon nowadays. The book is a semi-factual account of his release from jail in his early 30s and traces his chaotic life and path to his title fight with John L Gardner. Unfortunately Sykes was a seriously bad man but his book is worth reading.

I have got a copy of that. Its not worth paying over the odds for.

The documentary was bought to my attention by bob mediana a series called inbed with mediana was video clip show that took the piss then decade later my mate on youtube said check this..

I have heard too many stories about Paul to buy into a lot of the stuff wrote in his book. As i have said before, he was a VERY bad man. He met his wife when she was at school and he must have been in his thirties. There is a word for that where i come from.
