Mamby on that list by quite a bit. He didn't have as many losses so it may not be what you're looking for. But Witherspoon was a flat out bad ass when he was ready to rumble. Capable of beating anyone and I'd favor him over some Top 15 Heavyweights.

Of that list I'd actually have said Pendleton. Mamby was never a fave of mine.

Battling Battalino was probably the best inconsistent boxer of alltime.

I know I bring him up a lot, but Fritzie Zivic is on the list.
One day he beats Charley Burley the next he loses to Willie Lump Lump.

Zivic is probably the winner here. It is amazing how many great fighters he beat and how many mediocre fighters he lost to.
Another guy worth mentioning is Johnny Risko.

Are you thinking of someone else? McCoy only had 6 losses in a long career. I know he has the reputation of throwing fights, but really he was pretty consistent.

The press used to write about his upcoming fights. "Will we see the Real McCoy tomorrow night?" because of his reputation for being inconsistent.

May have been called that because he had a penchant for doin the old flip flop or maybe carrying a guy the limit.
Just a guess. Not sure.

I had heard the story as well. It would make sense for him getting the nickname for carrying inferior fighters. Presumably he would have been doing this because of betting whether the fight would go the distance or not.

I had also heard a different story of how the "real McCoy" saying started. Supposedly there was a another fighter in the area with the same name who was not nearly as good. When the great Kid Mccoy would be fighting, the fans would be seeing the "Real McCoy".

Wonder if either story is true.
