yes hes over. were talking about a guy who didnt fight top contenders when he was champ. when he went with king he started fighting chumps like tubbs , carl the " truth" williams , michael spinks. if he wouldve stayed with gus & rooney i think he wouldve been a great champ. but now hell go down as a great chump.

Has anyone ever heard of "Gus D'Amato"???

and I may be wrong but u say he went with king and started fighting chumps like tubbs and williams. I am pretty sure Tyson fought tubbs before king officially became his manager and promoter. THe tubbs fight was right before the spinks fight in which tyson sued bill cayton to release him. Also, HE DIDNT FIGHT TOP CONTENDERS??? hmmmm lets see all the heavyweight champs he fought tony tubbs, Larry Holmes, Bonecrusher, Berbick, pinklon thomas, tony tucker, mike spinks, and frank bruno(eventually). so out of his 9 title defenses not counting berbick he fought 7 champions. only williams and tyrell biggs were not champs. so 7 of his 9 title defenses were against heavyeeight champions at one point. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE TOP CONTENDERS TO YOU??? OR WOULD U LIKE HIM TO FIGHT MIKE "THE GIANT" WHITE?

Tyson fought the best out their. Guys like witherspoon, page, and weaver all didnt want to fight him after they saw what tyson did to guys they lost to. TYSON BEAT THE BEST CONTENDERS OUT THEIR AND UNIFIED ALL THE TITLES WHICH IS HARD TO DO.

Witherspoon wanted to fight him, but was denied because he was involved in a lawsuit with Don King, he was not allowed to fight or got fed up with the BS or something, but he was inactive for 2 years, 92-94, because of King.

He never ducked Tyson

Holyfield had the right counter style to beat Tyson, he probably would have beaten him whenever they fought, a lot of handicappers, myself included, as well as Trump who put a million bucks on it, noticed that.

Same with Foreman, many guys were giving old George a shot because of his style, he was not gonna be bullied by Tyson or anyone, and had heavy hands which Tyson would've walked into, Tyson was similar to Frazier, a low to the ground, clubbing type, power puncher, and everyone remembers how Big George brutalized poor Joe.

This game is not always about who is better, the fighting style of some guys will f#%k you up everytime, no matter how good you are.

To all of those who i have heard talk about this matchup over the years on forums, i must say that after watching Foremans comeback fight vs. Cooney, that it would have been one of the most one-sided beatdowns in heavyweight boxing, and i mean in the favour of deposed champion Iron mike.

Couple of reasons why.

Foremans defence

Foreman employed a loose cross-armed defence, but it lacked solidness, it wasnt anywhere near as tight as the defence of Witherspoon, or Norton. Cooney slapped jabs all over the face of foreman and got in with left hooks, one of which hurt foreman. Foreman plodded and took many a shot.

The fact is Tyson had more speed and at this time more power than Cooney, it is only logical to assume that Tyson would land more frequenty and more effectively.

Foremans Offence

The shots Foreman threw where wilder than in his prime, they lacked accuracy or good boxing form, even cooney avoiding some, even with his infamous terrible defence! Foreman looked like a complete amatuer throwing bodyshots, and even throwing short inside shots, competely amatuerish.

The fact is that in 1990, Tyson would easily evade these amatuerly thrown shots, of which the power ones where very slow, Tyson would find his way inside unload the shots, and easily avoid the very amatuer, albeit powerful shots of Foreman

Foremans RingCraft

Foreman by this time seems to have forgotten to be able to close off a ring and deliver effective accurate shots, this would be needed to beat a Tyson who could only be hit by crisp accurate volleys of shots. Foreman simply wasnt capable of doing this.

Conclusion.

If the fight took place at this time, the old Man would have been in a world of Hurt, taking one of the most one-sided hammerings, and looking totally amatuerish in the process.

Tyson TKO4 Foreman

He certainly is!

He was last seen in the ring in July 1989, against Carl Williams.

He's been a boxer of the past for a long time now....all that's changed is that people are finally starting to realize it.

As for Tyson beating all the top contenders of his time: Holyfield wanted the fight right from the time he unified the cruiser titles, and couldn't get it. Tyson, not Foreman, avoided that fight. Whatever you think about who'd have won it, Mike wouldn't take it. He had no interest in facing Ruddock until he had to fight him to get another crack at the title, and Toney Tucker--who badly broke his hand in the second round of their fight, after seriously rocking Tyson in the first--never got the rematch that he called for for the next four years. Then there were the up-and-coming guys of Tyson's era that he quite understandably didn't face because of 1) the loss to Douglas, 2) his conviction. Guys like Lewis, Bowe and Mercer who would have made interesting fights for him in the early to mid 90s, had he been available to fight.

So, all-in-all, I'd say Tyson faced a lot of top guys (plus a couple of not so top guys) but that it's an exaggeration to say he beat everybody of his time. He didn't.

Close...I think he was last seen through 9 rounds in Feb. 1990...losing on points, he hadn't lost yet...and I fully expected him to KO Douglas before the end of the fight...just couldn't handle anything that resembled adversity...needed a bigger heart, more self control, and a little more humility...

I can't argue with that.

All fighters need heart & stamina, when their skills start to deteriorate or they encounter difficulty & Tyson had very little of either.
