Computerized Fight from Ring, 7/95, Robinson vs Burley
A couple of weeks ago when we discussed Burley it was mostly in the context of him against La Motta, wasn't it? At any rate the computer sets up the following scenario: it is Sept of 1948. Robinson has defended the welter title three times and has just defeated Gavilan in a non-title fight. Burley is 31 and glad for the opportunity. Robinson weighs in at 152, Burley at 154 for the 12 rounder billed as a middleweight tite eliminator. How is it going to play out? The magazine givs essentially a blow by blow of the computer scrap but it will take me a few minutes to figure out how to post the few pages. Meanwhile ,, who wins?
Computer fight
Robinson wins according to the computer.
Robinson signed to fight Burley in 1946, then pulled out. In 1948 Burley was on his way out of boxing, but Robinson still wouldn't fight him. Robinson avoided plenty of fighters and his record at middleweight suggests that maybe Burley could've taken him.
All we need to remember is it was Robinson who ducked Burley in real life - not the other way around.

I doubt it. Robinson would have beaten a prime burley and easily an aging burley. where talking about the greatest of all time. now i understand robinson was better aty welterweight but before he retired, he was a force at middlewieght too. g2g ill post more laterRobinson avoided plenty of fighters and his record at middleweight suggests that maybe Burley could've taken him.
