Lol he is actually a nice genuine bloke, I met him at the ABA finals and what you see is what you get, he took time out to talk to me and a friend of mine, I beleive his love for the game is genuine and i wish him all the best, he wants to fight all the prospects and that can only be good for the sport

To be fair, he seems like a nice lad to me. He's obviously heavily influenced by his upbringing - in particular by his dad, the "proud fighting man" / eye gouger. He knows he needs to do a bit of trash talking to boost his profile and occasionally he hits the wrong note, but he's still a young lad and seems a little on the naive side at times. He's definitely got talent and showed both heart and chin in the McDermott fights. I hope he does well and expect him to put up a good show against Chisora - he might even pull off a points victory.

As a fight fan I feel a lot more drawn towards Fury than I do Chisora.

What Fury does always has a sense of humour about it. I'd love to see Fury flatten Chisora.

you know i think its more a reflection on the people that like using words like pikey,gyppo,ni66er,pakki etc ,it says more about them than the people they are abusing .
I have used the same ABC boxing club on and off since i was a lad ... that club was always very racially mixed. what with the Muslims, blacks,Indians,Pakistanis, polish and us Romany gypsys ...we was a right mixed lot but we all got on and supported each other,We wouldn't dream of using certain words about each other that seems cool to use on forums like this .
Whether you like Tyson Fury or not,why abuse his ethnicity by using racist slurs like pikey ? its just so lame :shame:

"He wants to fight all the prospects"...

....when he is in the crowd at someone elses bout and the 'prospect' is faced the other way?

While he rips his top off and his 38DD norks drop out and smother one of his famous uppercuts to his own jaw?

This all seems very similar to pro-wrestling. Didn't the two main factions over there used to do 'invasions' on the others show to boost both of their ratings.

His limitations and level were prob shown up in the McDermott fights, but hopefully he is still at the learning stage and can improve, his conditioning certainly needs to be improved.
Travellers have a reputation for not doing much in the gym and he isn't doing much to change the stigma

Na as already said Picky is like calling a black man a person and on boxing forums theres no need for it. Some people dont think its a bad word but to Travellers its a very offence word .. If Fury is Fit he plays with Del Boy, watched him sparring recently and has come on so much..

Pikey is a bad word and shouldn't be used.

However, it's not on a par with the N word (when that word is being used pejoratively). Although travellers have faced - and continue to face - a ton of discrimination, there isn't the history of brutal subjugation that exists between white and black people - i.e. slavery.

i almost posted the same comment yesterday mate....but it's wrong - 'pikey' IS on the same level as 'n*gger'.

because the level of subjugation IS comparable.

black africans were brutalised thru slavery....romanys were executed in gas chambers during ww2 just for being gypsies.

i agree that not every word used in a perjorative sense to describe anothers ethnic background is on a par (p*ki for example is pretty meaningless) with the n word but after thinking about it and doin a little research i realised that 'pikey' is more or less as abusive.

Are Romanys and 'pikeys' the same? I always think of Romanys as gypsies, whereas 'pikeys' are Irish travellers, Fury's roots being the latter. Apart from being banned from some pubs, I don't think you can categorise any prejudice against Irish travellers alongside slavery and gas chambers.

You might be right. I certainly wouldn't want to argue the point too strongly, lest it gave the impression I thought Pikey was an acceptable word.

Obviously, society doesn't treat those words as being on a par, b/c it's still kind of tolerated when pikey is used eg on forums like this and I have to admit to finding it funny when someone said "Fury went into full pikey mode" when he took his shirt off etc. It's pretty much unthinkable these days that someone would ever say of a black boxer (to diss him) that he went into "full N mode" - they would get slapped down (or worse) pretty quickly.
