McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Can't really disagree with that. Fair play to both for taking the fight.

Who's John McDermott's trainer now?......

I'm leaning towards McDermott in this fight, don't get me wrong I think Price is very talented but I think this fight is too soon for him, theres still a lot of flaws I see in him in the pro game.
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
I think Price will win this. McDermott seems to be getting slightly overrated now after years of being underrated. Fury and Olubamiwo are a lot more raw than Price imo
For me, Price punches are a lot more correct than Fury's, plus he seems to know how to use his height when boxers come to him. McDermott can get off some good punches when he gets into range but I think Price has the timing to catch him on the way in. It'll be a million miles away from the Larry O fight which made McDermott look so good.
Price in the first 7

I think once he establishes himself as a 12 round fighter he will improve his flaws pretty quickly, he will never improve his chin tho so it's gonna be interesting to see how far he goes.saturday_kid wrote:I'm leaning towards McDermott in this fight, don't get me wrong I think Price is very talented but I think this fight is too soon for him, theres still a lot of flaws I see in him in the pro game.

Get the feeling Price might make a statement here, early KO. Good fight.
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Early KO? No way, Price wont even beat McDermott without talking about KO'ing him. Price is too stiff, McDermott wins this easier than what many expect.Glyn Leach wrote:Get the feeling Price might make a statement here, early KO. Good fight.

I agree he's got the experience he's handled a big guy in Fury pretty well before. I think Big John can do it. It's the perfect step up for Price so let's see how he does.

Price ko Mcdermott.

Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
An early KO would be a surprise, I know, but that's the kind of statement I get a feeling he's ready to make. And that's no disrespect to Big John, who I rate highly at this level. I just get the impression that Price is pissed off at having been fighting uninspiring opponents for so long and he's straining at the leash to make his mark. Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong (cue Jorge Luis Gonzalez comments!), but I think we're in for a surprise.
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
No disrespect to Price but I think he is being a bit over rated here. How many 'prospects' have we got in the Heavyweight division now? It's all because we the British public are yearning for another Heavyweight star and grabbing at what we can without being realistic. You have to think about how the likes of Price & Co would have faired against a prospect of a Lewis, Bruno or even Danny Williams at this stage of their career. Completely different levels.

Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Price v McDermott is a cracking learning fight. Granted it isn't Lewis v Mason but heck. McDermott is a brilliant benchmark for Price's progress and I think, a reflection of some pressure from fighter and fan for David to take two steps up from the class he's been fighting. Frank Maloney has responded I think, though I'm sure he will deny any conscious or sub-conscious bowing to public pressure to step it up for the very capable Price.
I'd say this is 50-50 if the best McDermott turns up, if he doesn't, I'd say this is 70-30.
Cracking match though.

And you may have been one of the ones who predicted Olubamiwo to KO McDermott. Price has basically shared the ring with stiffs, hasn't boxed anyone near the level which McDermott has.leforge wrote:Price ko Mcdermott.

I like Mcdermott but think Price is a better fighter.Des1 wrote:And you may have been one of the ones who predicted Olubamiwo to KO McDermott. Price has basically shared the ring with stiffs, hasn't boxed anyone near the level which McDermott has.leforge wrote:Price ko Mcdermott.

Maybe not in the Pro's but his amateur experience is vast, I think he is a different lever to Big JohnDes1 wrote:And you may have been one of the ones who predicted Olubamiwo to KO McDermott. Price to make a big statement here. I think he'll hurt McDermott and hurt him early.
Hey though, am biased. ;;-)

I hope you aint right but if the right John dont turn up then thats exactly what will happen...
I knew what man was turning up to fight Larry, i dont think the same man turns up to fight Price.
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Price is too skilled and powerful for McDermott i think he will stop him early here
Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Ive seen Price on his arse plenty of times in the AMs.
He is chinny.
If he doesnt get caught flush early on he will win. If he gets caught like big larry did it will be lights out early i reckon.

Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
Including in the Olympics against Roberto Cammarelle I seem to recall. I will admit I have still have questions about David Price's chin in the paid ranks as we have not really seen it been tested. John McDermott is a tough durable and proven fighter at British level and is Price's first big test in the paid ranks. But Price has got the attributes and better movement and stops McDermott in the mid to late rounds.gmanji wrote:Ive seen Price on his arse plenty of times in the AMs.

Re: McDermott: 'I'm too experienced for Price'
No Price does not have a cast iron chin, which was shown at top level in the amateurs. However I think you would have to be top European level to test it

Has he not had the best camp, mate?Londonirish wrote:jBacca wrote:Price to make a big statement here. I think he'll hurt McDermott and hurt him early.
