Oddly enough, I had my ears syringed earlier this week but it didn't make the news.

That's a good point actually. It's just a case of an unnatural amount of earwax being produced, quicker than you can squidge it about with the old cotton bud, right? Does it come on all at once, like, & drip & swell like something from an H.P. Lovecraft short story & pour out of the ears in an amorphous yellow tidal wave? Or do your ears just go "pop" one day & you realise you can't hear or what?

I didn't really explain that well. The wax close to the eardrum you either wont reach or you will just push it closer to the eardrum. You are risking rupturing your ear drum, especially if it's weak from previous perforations. If his previous perforations were bad (I suspect not as I don't think he had surgery) they wouldn't even flush the wax out, they would suction it. When they flush it, they bounce fluid off the eardrum, which brings the wax out on its way back out. Risky if you have a weak eardrum. You can also get 'wax' behind the ear drum but that is drained out by a tube.

Waxy ears are a big problem. One that goes unnoticed until it is sorted out. I once knew a guy who had a huge lump of wax stuck in his ear for over a month. It almost drove him mad but was dislodge quite by accident when he let out a massive sneeze. He immediately noticed the difference to his audibility and become a huge fan of King Crimson.

My advice is to use either baby oil, unscented, or special oily stuff from the chemist to break up and dislodge the wax.

You don’t just ram it home, though, you have to put yourself in a reclining position, administer the drops and then use some cotton wool pads, not balls, to block the ear hole and prevent leakage.

I guess you’ve spotted the problem with this. Yes, the cotton runs the risk of absorbing the drops and negating the treatment. So you’ve got to be gentle with the pads, double them over and just pop them in slightly, treating your ear like a virgin’s vagina. And I don’t mean that you have to take it out for a few meals and meet the parents.

Wait for ten minutes, take the pads out and notice the difference. You will feel the wax breaking up. Whack some King Crimson on, Starless And Bible Black does it for me, and you will notice the difference in sound, it is like Robert Fripp is hitting you over the head with a sitar.

Oh, make sure you do this at night as you don’t want this shit tumbling out at work. Also ensure that you change your pillowcase, the shit can get messy.

I have never had to have my ears syringed.

You can also use cod liver oil.

Cotton buds are a danger. I know one person who had to go to hospital after using one. The tip got lodged right up there. We waited three hours for a doctor. I was effing fuming.

Quite. I suppose one way of heading off leakage about a fighter getting badly buzzed/knocked down in sparring could be to say that said fighter had an ear problem that impacted his balance.

But to be serious, my balance was a bit off until I got my ears syringed. Nothing dramatic, but it definitely wasn't right. Also, when your ears are very blocked you don't half feel odd. Personally I think Frochy's done the right thing, it wouldn't be a good condition to fight in, when you need to be in command of all your faculties.
