Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
Johnson looked drained to the bone apparently.
But the big news is a massive fight nearly broke out, when McCracken claims the gloves the promoters served up were "illegal" and several people got heated and thrown out the venue.
It stems from the fact that certain types of gloves were thrown out during the Abraham fight for non-compliance, but now there being introduced for this fight.

Well Ive just spoken to two of my friends smack bang in front of the stage, and they say Johnson is "bone dry" and he has already eaten his way back up to the 166 weight he came in at. They said he looked old as hell, almost feeble.
This spells good news for Team Froch, as they will likely go downstairs and attack the feeble body.
That said, I remember Adamu came in about 165 and on the night was built like a boulder.
Who knows, maybe it's a factor, maybe it isn't - but Im sure we shall find out.
With regards the gloves, the info is sketchy, i think they're red everlasts with peculiar padding and strange laces. If you recall McCracken and Sourland fell out in Fight Camp 360 because they wanted this rock hard glove for Abraham, but McCracken and the authorities rejected them, it was underlined they were infact non-compliant.
From what I've been told (it was hard to hear) is that the same glove surfaced again and Johnson wanted it, but Rob pointed out that they are illegal - but they counter argued that the Jersey committee had deemed them okay, which prompted some words and a few people got kicked out whilst they endeavoured to sort it out.
With respect, McCracken knows more about gloves than anyone I imagine given his day job and night job. Since Froch wore thos absolute shite BBE gloves when he fought magee and shattered his thumb, Rob is very stringent they fully comply.

Johnson has always looked "old as hell."
Re: Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
I'd agree with that.crusader wrote:Johnson has always looked "old as hell."
I like him a lot, he never had a favour off anyone and always comes to fight. You've got to admire him for that.
I just hope the weight thing doesn't spoil the event, because his style relies on strength & energy and if he's over-shot the mark he could run out of gas and get busted up. Thats great for Carl, but wont be a humdinger like it promised to be.
Glen throws like 100 punches a round sometimes, if he cant put the volume together he'll get ran over. Carl will not want to win a UD, despite what he says, he will set himself a goal of stopping him - im not sure if he will admit that to Rob though !!

Which gloves will be used? These ones that Johnson wanted?G0mez wrote:Well Ive just spoken to two of my friends smack bang in front of the stage, and they say Johnson is "bone dry" and he has already eaten his way back up to the 166 weight he came in at. To be fair - if the New Jersey commission have accepted them then it will be difficult for McCraken to get his way. They really have the final say on whats illegal or not.

Facially Johnson looks okay, but he doesn't look good with his frame. Reminds me of DLH vs Pacquiao if I am honest. Looks like he has lost so much muscle.crusader wrote:

There, I said it.
Re: Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
Froch's last five bouts have entered the 12th and Johnson has proven himself to be very durable against top opponents. If Froch does end this early I suspect that Johnson's age or weight making issues, or both, played some part in facilitating the stoppage.

There's a video here (hopefully the link is ok with the mods)

I'm in the camp that says Johnson looks very drawn. In saying that I haven't seen him at many weigh ins before.

Id agree, cant see Johnson suddenly becoming a fantastic super middleweight overnight. He is plenty lively though for most.crusader wrote:Froch's last five bouts have entered the 12th and Johnson has proven himself to be very durable against top opponents. Allan Green had no business at 168, he was like a scarecrow blowing in the wind in that fight.
Still, be something if he did stop him - because Glen looks bang up for this one and has by all accounts trained his slippers off !
Reasonable odds on Froch and Rees to win via points. Threw in Chavez for the treble and it could be bonanza.

Re: Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
I felt before all this weigh-in malarky that Froch could stop Johnson. I'll never forget how drained in looked in the latter stages of the first fight with Woods. It also appeared that Woods had him down but it wasn't counted. However, I don't think it's a big deal that he looks drawn at the weigh in. Many fighter in this day and age drain like crazy. I remember Scott Harrison used to look like he was at deaths door when weighing in. By fight night he was a rock-chinned, brick sh*thouse.
Re: Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
I'd be surprised if Froch got rid of Johnson inside the distance.
Glen is one tough, tough man, even if Froch does start wearing him down I can see it being too late to force a stoppage. Carl isn't going to take his chances getting into a tear up either, because he'd come second. He's got to stick to his boxing throughout the fight.

Weigh-in pictures are meaningless. Johnson may look 'bonedry' but he will have around 36 hours to rehydrate his body and could step into the ring around 185 lbs which will be a good weight for him.
An example of someone looking absolutely dead at the weigh-in was Brandon Rios against Miguel Acosta but come fight time he'd rehydrated and was healthy and strong.

Re: Froch 167 Johnson 166...kicks off at weigh in
I don't know about weight drawn if he could get down to 166 but I'd go with being overtrained but I'm sure he'll be fine by fight night and Froch's in for a scrap whatever Johnson turns up. He's tough as old boots and is very savvy. I'll say Froch on points and it'd be a real feather in his cap if he could stop him but I think he should stick to what he did against Abraham and only get 'involved' if he really has to. He's got all the height and reach advantages and just needs to make sure he doesn't get caught by silly right hands and drawn into Johnson's style of fight.
Froch after tough fight but with room to spare, then we can look forward to the Ward fight, which I feel Carl has a great chance of winning.
