Carl Froch

Post by horndawg80 »

Just finished watching Froch! I had Froch by one round, it was a lot closer than the official judges in my opinion.

I personally thought Froch would stop Johnson but that man is something else! He didn't even look like going down at any point. There goes my £50! ha-ha

Carl Froch is my favourite boxer but I can't see how he defeats Ward unless he walks through his shots. He took some huge shots tonight but his chin is like a solid piece of steel. I don't know how a human can take so many clean shots to the jaw / head.

I don't see why he only engages after he has taken a massive shot!? It kind of brings him to life. Personally I think Froch was a little slower to start tonight as per usual but really came on in the later rounds.

Also I think the Cobra has been watching Haye on tape! Did anyone notice how he was circling the ring looking out the corner of his eye? More so than usual. Very David Haye-esque!

Let's just hope he nails Ward in the final!

looking at both styles,I don't see how Froch can beat Ward either...

I'm not looking past Froch 100% but would Ward have beaten Calzaghe? I would say yes. I just think he is an exceptional talent.

I really want Carl to beat Ward.

I thought Froch was going to win in much more impressive fashion, and I'm definitely picking Ward to beat him. Froch is going to have a very tough time outscoring Ward, who is faster and more skilled, and by now people should realise Froch isn't a puncher, so it will be very difficult to score a KO over an opponent who is hard to hit flush.

I think Joe C would win, but he wouldn't destroy Ward. I know Ward can be hard to watch, but he's got legit skills and talent; he hasn't lost since he was 12 years old.

I'd have taken a prime Joe C over anyone in the super 6 but expect Ward to go on to be a much more decorated champion in time.

Its been long recognised that Carl isn't a huge puncher at world class - and Johnson is one seriouslt tough old fella.

So the result, or manner in which it was obtained, is no surprise.

Welldone both guys. Andre Ward has an uncomfortable night against Froch - but clearly and widely wins.

I agree with the, only guys to run Calzaghe close would have been Ward & Dirrel. The rest have been to crude/basic/shot.

I'm not sure about that, as over Froch's last five fights I have seen plenty of people pick him to win by stoppage. I certainly thought Froch would look better tonight.

People keep picking Froch by stoppage but when has he shown real power at world class? He tough as hell sure, but his only stoppage at the top was against a worn out Taylor.

I don't think Calzaghi would have lasted the whole tournament.

He would have pulled out midway like Kessler in my opinion.

!
I agree, he seems to wait to be hit and then comes back with a combination. He is far too easy to hit too. Effective so far but it's very odd.

Ward - calzaghe would have being 60-40 from what I've seen prob calzaghe work rate allowing him to edge it

Just cant believe how many experienced and informed people were picking carl to win by stoppage as fight time drew nearer. This is not being wise after the event but this was always gonna be hard night (tactically) for froch.
The only way that carl beats Ward is by dragging him into the trenches and exposing some flaws in his game. I cant see ward falling for that tbh but Carl defo aint gunna beat him by circling and looking out the corner of his eye!! Still, a tremondous name on his c.v. when he retires.

I can see why people thought a stoppage was possible, Glenn looked awful at the weigh in- Carl looked very confident and was coming off the type of display where a static and aged opponent would be taken apart. Within 30 seconds I knew Johnson was in good form though- his lively start put paid to any idea's I had that Carl might stop hiim

no more backing carl froch fights not to go distance. Have lost 150 backing his last 3 fights to end early. I think it is right that he power isn't up to much at world level

I agree Calzaghe would be to busy for Ward..I also think if Calzaghe came back within the next year he would beat Froch on a wide points decision..

This fight was closer than i thought it would be ,although i had froch winning by a couple of three rounds .
I never used to like Froch, but he gained my respect ..he fights anywhere in the world in other fighters back yards and he comes to fight...has he been in a bad title fight yet ?? :box:
And btw ...Calzaghe would out box/work ward with ease .

I had Carl by 3round. He didn't get started till the 4th round and got clocked a few times but its a boxing match your goning to get hit, its how your come back from getting hit and I thought Carl done that brilliant. Fair play to Johnson but Froch deserved the win. Looking forward to the Ward fight now

Joe would have won the whole super six against any of the fighters that have fought in it IMO. I think Dirrell and Ward would have been his toughest possible opponents, but I think he would have been too game.

I've never lost a boxing match in 26 years. I've never had one though, to be fair.
but....calzaghe would never had entered such a high risk competition, he valued his '0' far too much.

Carl seems to be a bit less up-for-it when he goes in the ring expecting to win. That went for the Kessler fight and last night. I had Carl up by four against Johnson, but when he expects to win, he needs to be dragged into battle mode, normally when the other guy is the aggressor and gains an early lead on him.

Carl's power is decent enough at world level. He really knocked Johnson back and took the wind out of his sails after Glen had landed big with his right a few times. The same went for Kessler - I haven't seen many rock Kessler as bad as Carl did with that massive shot in what I think was the 5th or 6th in Denmark.

Johnson hits harder than Ward, in my opinion, so Carl does have a chance in the Super Six final. However, his gameplan, camp and prep will need to go close to 100% perfect. With Carl being the underdog for this upcoming final and unification fight, it should make him more up-for-it and hopefully lead to him delivering a career-best performance.

I had that fight really close. Wouldnt have be surprised to have seen Johnson given the decision.

Im a big Carl Froch fan. He clearly has shortcomings but he doesnt stop until the final bell and he's very game. Bit of a poor performance compared with the Abraham fight but then again Johnson put up much more of an argument.

In some fights Carl appears to need to be stung and whacked a couple of times before he gets his finger out. I hope he shocks Ward and puts on a real blinder next time.
