Peter wins again

Post by jomothepure »

An easy 2nd round TKO. From what I've heard it was nothing really new. A lack of skill, a big belly, and a big mother of a punch.

He is 24, however, and whether he's a master of his trade or not his bang is taking him where he needs to get so far. When more worthy contenders such as Kevin McBride and Bernard Cribbins have been given their shot, I'm sure Peter could get one next year if he wanted.

I always thought Audrey could be destroyed quite easily by Peter, and a 'safer' option would be Brock, but maybe if Audrey can use his greater skill he could cause Peter trouble. Having said that, we've not really seen anyone's 'skills' trouble Peter so far, with who he's been in with so far at least

His punch is over rated.

I imagine Peter's handlers won't honestly be in a major hurry to get him a title shot, certainly not against any nifty boxers like Byrd. They'll be making plenty of noise and calling out everybody bar King Kong of course but in reality they'll be looking to get him gently introduced to fighting at Top 20 level in the next 12 months. He's only a nipper so they won't be in a hurry to risk such a hot commodity as an exciting and unbeaten heavyweight puncher. I don't see him fighting other prospects like Brock or Harrison either, the days when unbeaten contenders had to face each other for a title shot are sadly long gone.

Apoligies in advance, because this is ridiculous, but I couldn't exactly give it it's own thread, and it's been bugging me for ages.

Has anyone else ever wondered or observed that stoppages/KO's etc seem to happen far more often in even rounds ie. rds 2, 4, 6 than odd rounds? Am I just mad or is there something in it (first, that there is a higher ratio of even round stoppages, and second there is some reason for it, like some connection between 3-6, 9-12 minutes and a boxers' physical drop in energy or something?

(I do know my local loony farm by the way, it's only 5 or 6 miles. Just give the word)

Sorry, can't think of any (sane) explanation for the even rounds theory, might be worth investigating if there really is a preference for even rounds though.

Going back to Peter (that's Samuel not Buckley!), it's interesting to note that there have been several promising big men to come out of Nigeria in the past 10/15, but none of them have really achieved what was hoped:

Ike Ibeabuchi - promising but insane!
Henry Akinwande - probably achieved the most, but mentally weak
Duncan Dokiwari - looked hopeful but disappointed
Herbie Hide - nothing more need be said!
David Defiagbon - recently exposed
Richard Bango - massively inactive
David Izon - very tough but limited

The African continent has produced several champions in Gerrie Coettze and Frans Botha (although he was stripped).
For some reason not a black boxer from africa has held a main title at heavy WBA, WBC or IBF. I'm not sure why this is .
