Lewis is definitely the best fighter since the 90s imo, but I still have Calzaghe above Froch.

No.

Lennox Lewis, Joe Calazghe, Ricky Hatton, Prince Naseem and David Haye i would make top 5.

And how the hell can u can have Froch above Calzaghe???? Froch is at the peak of his powers, and he looked very very ordinary against a 42 year old Johnson, not to mention getting battered by Kessler, and getting totally outboxed by a past-it Jermaine Taylor, way behind on all 3 score cards, only to get the win via a last min KO.

I don't rate Froch at all. Ward will have an easy night against him.

It dose not matter how you win as long as you win, the public would rather see a win like Froch had over Taylor than a 12 points win any time. How can you put Ricky in the top 3 who did he beat at the real top level yes he was the best supported
British boxing even and would make the top 10 but not in the top 3. Liverpools JC and Benn would push out Haye, Nassem, Hatton if we were to do the best all time top 5.

Agree about Hatton but somehow you would have to accomadate Hamed, did not have the longevity of Benn at world level but niether did conteh. Just feel that for 18 months after the Robinson win naz would have given any 9 stoner in any era a serious row. Benn easily eclipses Hatton.

If Froch beats Ward i'd put him above Calzaghe, and i can't believe anyone could have Hatton above Froch.
Hatton was good, but Froch has won away from home against top boxers

1. Lewis
2. Hamed
3. Calzaghe
4. Benn
5. Froch

I'd say the terrain was a lot choppier in the middle/supermiddle for Benn and Froch, then Calzaghe though. Could Benn and Froch have gone 46-0 against Calzaghe's opposition at their best, at the time Joe fought them? I'd say so.

I know where your coming from Jeff Thomas, and i am/was Benns biggest fan but for me he was never guna finish his career unbeaten- too exciting or unpredictable for that. Agree with Froch though.

The best three fighters Britain have had since 1990?

1) Lewis
2) Eubank
3) Hamed

Lewis's wins against Ruddock and Golota, and Holyfield I and Tua, were ace card. Eubank dominated Rocchigiani and Holmes and went 3-0-1 against Watson and Benn. Hamed had good wins against Johnson and Kelley, and great performances against Robinson and Bungu.

This might be the worst post I've ever read.

I'm not sure when Kessler battered him to be honest, and ''totally outboxed and way behind'' isn't a phrase I'd use to discuss the Taylor fight.... one of the judges had him ahead too.....

I believe Calzaghe is/was a better fighter than Froch. However, if Froch beats Ward I'd rank him higher based on actual achievements. Right now I'm not sure: Calzaghe did beat a lot of very good if not great fighters like Woodhall, Reid, Kessler and a slightly past prime Eubank. And he did beat Hopkins fair and square - that is no mean feat!

The Froch/Calzaghe debate is a tough one.

I think most people feel that Calzaghe has more ability, but in terms of overall accomplishments I think Joe kinda sold himself short. There were lots of filler fights in between the Eubank and Lacy fights, meaningless contests against opponents that were largely faded or had fallen short against the other ''champions'' in the division - which meant the outcomes were pretty predictable, either clear on points or a KO.

It was difficult to make the Ottke fight for various reasons, but it would have been a fight that would probably have secured Calzaghe's place as the undisputed #1 in the division.

Froch on the other hand has done it the hard way, he's scored stoppage wins over all his domestic foes and faced six world class opponents in a row and beat five of them. People criticise him for the Kessler defeat, but if you fight world class fighters regularly at some stage you are going to come up short. It's worth noting that Kessler gave Calzaghe fits and should really have won their fight, the lack of a plan B was his downfall, and is a man who's dominated several top class fighters.

What I love about Froch and I'm sure many people do is his willingness to fight anybody. He's not a paper champion fighting the weakest opposition that the org will accept, which compared to many British ''world'' champions is both rare and refreshing.

I still think he'll fall short against Andre Ward, but that kid is a special fighter and would dominate pretty much everyone from 160-175.

Not to call your integrity into account, but are you angling to promote Carl? Self promotion rarely works for fighters, and Carl only has one more fight sorted when he doesn't have to do any work related to that.

In terms of the question, I really can't get behind the idea that it doesn't matter how you win. I mean if it doesn't matter how well you win then why does it matter who you fought? You have to take into account the quality of the performance which covers both parts. Froch has been close to losing several times, and that matters on how good you rate someone to be.

Now in terms of exciting, you can't argue that Froch is not one of our most exciting fighters of the last twenty years, but if that is your criteria then how can you have Lewis at the top? Lewis was a great fighter in terms of talent and achievement, but had a lot of dull fights. Also a lot of fights where he clearly hadn't put the effort in.

For me, picking top three British fighters in terms of excitement:
Gavin Rees - Can't help but enjoy watching a smaller man outboxing taller opponents and beating them on work rate. Always enjoyed watching this guy, even if I can only understand half of what he says in the after match interviews.
Carl Froch - Froch has a chin of iron it seems and just keeps on slugging. Relies to much on the chin and power which is a shame as as he showed against Abraham he can occasionally remember how to box. Easy to forget watching him as a pro that he was a stand out amateur.
Amir Khan - Fragile chin, fast hands, not great power. Great combination to watch for me. Fight Khan means even fighters like Kotelnik think they can knock him out and come out swinging. The fact they may be right means he has to pepper them with shots and keep it up for 12 rounds. He can be dominant but you still watch thinking one shot can change its.

There are plenty of others who are mostly British level or not even that, but those three have all been world champions as well. Also Nigel Benn should probably be in there...

That would make for an interesting fight assuming Benn could get close enough. Benns punch against Frochs chin.
