Frans Botha - The BBBofC Should Be Ashamed.

Post by keithmoonhangover »

A little while ago, the BBBofC refused to sanction Frans Botha as an opponent for Tyson Fury. Yesterday Botha beat 10-0 (9) Flo Simba by 6th round stoppage. Proof positive that Botha has got enough left to provide a challenge a prospect.

The board allow the likes of Daniil Peretyatko in to get punched around the ring. Mick Hennesy has the guts to try and match Fury against the likes of Botha, a name opponent, who is still dangerous and gets knocked back by the board. Would Mr Peretyatko have stopped Flo Simba in 6 rounds? Nope. The board are a joke.

Not really sure you can have ago at the bbbc for turning down a 42 year old who hadn't won since may 2009.

My point is that Botha is far better opponent than Daniil Peretyatko or Raman Sukhaterin or Gabor Farkas.

These are all fighters Botha would beat, yet they get licenced and beaten.

Its time for your pill going on about Fury again! I think the age was the reason.

I think it was a difficult decision for the board to make.

However it does seem pretty strange considering some of the opponents that Price and Jeffries have faced..... many of those wouldn't have beaten a reasonably tough rugby player.

It's especially annoying when there's plenty of fighters here that are both more durable and skilled, parked up doing nothing.

Agreed he's better than all mentioned, but it would just of been a name for the record - Would you have paid to see it?

If the fight was in the North East, I'd pay £30 to watch it, DEFO.

I'd deal at £40. :TU:

Seriously though, I think it would have been a good fight. A lot better than most of the matches we are offered. Even though Botha is of an age, he'd still present Fury with his toughest test.

Well, i will be going to the Chisora-Fury fight - we'll grab a beer if your going - prob. be able to sort you a place to crash aswell. I wouldn't cross the road for Fury-Botha. :TU:

It does seem strange that some of these punchbag types from eastern Europe get the go ahead. Can only think Botha suffered for once having been somebody and therefore being 'on the radar' while these anonymous generic opponents are given the benefit of the doubt

same reason holyfields licence was withdrawn no? as long as they pass the tests the board set they should be allowed to fight if we think its time for the fighter not to fight its up to the viewer to tune out, if no-one watches no-one will book them to fight

I think that also applies to African fighters too.

It's highly unlikely in this day and age that ''the next Azumah Nelson'' will be found in a Commonwealth title fight at York Hall, the last decent African I can remember was Munyai. Obviously Laryea was good enough to take care of a very below par Appleby but was soundly whipped by Burns not long afterwards.

True Leeds, very similar in that largely speaking they are fighters we know little or nothing about but they're given the benefit of the doubt yet a faded name like Botha is deemed to be not worth taking a risk on when he is still clearly a better class of opponent

They were obviously in a difficult position with Botha, obviously he'd been stopped by a beyond shot Holyfield..... but even in this severely faded state Evander is still actually a reasonably good fighter, better than someone like Harrison for instance.

You probably know more about this than me, but don't the board have stringent rules when it comes to the age of foreign fighters?

When you think about it, whilst it is clearly well intended, there are lots of current examples of 40+ fighters still at (or almost at) the top of their game. Bernard Hopkins dominated Jean Pascal recently, and Glen Johnson has been competing with and beating world class fighters in the past couple of years..... whereas many fighters in their late 20's ought to consider packing in.

I've got nothing at all against foreign boxers being used as stepping stones for our young fighters, but there does need to be a greater deal of research put into the lower level ones - Daniel Peret is a fairly good journeyman at a certain level, whereas some of the other opponents for Fury, Price and Jeffries have been very poor.

Doesn't take a genius to log on here and look at a record, even though it's not always the full story the fact that many of them have never beaten an opponent with a winning record ought to set alarm bells ringing.

The biggest thing that galls me is when we've got lots of our own journeymen at varying levels that are parked up because they have the tendency to cause an upset if the house fighter isn't bang on. I'd have thought a man like Tony Booth would be a promoter's dream. A very easy way to find out whether your kid can hack it is stick him in with Tony..... then at a slightly higher level there's Peter McDonagh's, Stefy Bull's etc etc.

Whatever the rule is, it's wrong. Years ago, put something in place so that the only foreign imports allowed into the country were ones of a very high standard. If memory serves, it was on the back of James Holly being allowed to fight Michael Bentt.

Botha could beat Daniel Peret and even Zack Page, so why not let him in. Saying no just because of his age is a disgrace. George Foreman was over 40 when he fought here.

I've just looked at that guy's record..... 55 KO losses!

Not good!

Page is a good fighter, the Dallas decision was laughable.

Botha beat Simba, now here's the stupid thing....

If Fury wanted to fight Botha, the board say no.

If Fury wanted to fight Simba, the board would say yes.
