katsidis v Earl Verbally Confirmed!!
Re: katsidis v Earl Verbally Confirmed!!
To be fair, Green hadn't fought in a big fight in a while before the Jones fight. I think Jones went into the fight a warm favourite. It was supposed to be a tune up for the Hopkins rematch.

It was a mismatch in my mind, and I suspect Green's as well. Roy loses more than he wins these days, and his reflexes have significantly dulled. He had been knocked out twice (once very badly), lost again to Tarver and then copped a hiding at the hands of Calzaghe, so to me he was not favourite going into that fight.stujones wrote:To be fair, Green hadn't fought in a big fight in a while before the Jones fight. Green then compounded matters by taking on Briggs.

Katsidis took a proper hiding last time ought against guerrero. he needs someone easy before going through that again

For his own sake i hope he fails a medical noone wants tae see this. Katsidis deserves an easy homecoming fight defo but there are a thousand other opponents out there for him. It's like sending Roy Jones back in with lebedev in a few years time!

Earl KO2.

Re: katsidis v Earl Verbally Confirmed!!
I agree that after the beating Guerrero gave him Michael will want a 'softer' opponent. There are hundreds of decent, in shape and active boxers that are short of Katsidis' class but would be able to stand up, defend themselves, hold a shot and punch back.smcb80 wrote:Katsidis took a proper hiding last time ought against guerrero. he needs someone easy before going through that again
Katsidis knew that he was in against a very good fighter in Guerrero, that he came up short and took his lumps does not warrant smashing a shot fighter to pieces 10,000 miles from his home.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, going into that fight though Jones was 5-1 in his last 6. The 1 being his fight with Joe. He'd just stopped Lacy and Omar Sheika.big lennox wrote:It was a mismatch in my mind, and I suspect Green's as well. Green was coming off a long lay off, and had just fought two very over matched opponent.

It's not hindight.I have been quite vocal about Jones decline for a while now.He was shot to bits before he got in the ring with Calzaghe too, but maybe you didn't realise that? Lacy and Skeika were finished too, and as such were regarded as softish opponents. When one sees Jones get knocked flat by Tarver and then out cold for about 7 mins against Johnson, one has to worry about his abilities, so it really wasn't a case of hindsight for me.stujones wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing, going into that fight though Jones was 5-1 in his last 6. In fact, it is interesting that you viewed him as a favourite against Green. That makes me question your ability to read a fight.

you'll have to remind me when exactly this was?!DougieC30 wrote: Katsidis the great Promotions in association with Smithy’s Gym

Re: katsidis v Earl Verbally Confirmed!!
Do the board have the power to refuse Earl permission to fight?
I might be out of order here but I suppose the one virtue is that Katsidis punches hard enough to knock Earl out with the first punch of the fight. I'd much rather see that than him face someone that can't really punch and would bash him up for several rounds.

bad bad fight earl is gunna get slaughtered but if hes skint and the moneys good hes gunna take it who ever has offered him this fight needs to have a long hard look at themselves it could end up with not a very nice ending and earl doesnt deserve to go out like that after the career he has had but he needs to relise its over and let it go or he will get hurt
Re: katsidis v Earl Verbally Confirmed!!
Shocking fight. Earl is no Morales - I can see him getting hurt here. This kind of thing is just bad for boxing.
