McCloskey wants a pop at either Maidana or Bradley
Could either of these fights happen. Highly unlikely to see Dudey in the same ring with Bradley but would Maidana travel to Ireland to fight McCloskey if the price was right?

Arum will be looking for an easy defence for Bradley on the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard, to warm him up for Pacqiao in the spring. So it could happen.slapbangwhallop wrote:Could either of these fights happen. Maidana - no chance. Who's going to pay Maidana the sort of money he would want? Not Sky and Matchroom.

Unless McCloskey goes Stateside it is the only way I can see it happening, I cannot see Maidana fighting at the National Stadium or the Kings Hall when he has been fighting at the MGM Grand and the Staples Centre.gobbles wrote:Arum will be looking for an easy defence for Bradley on the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard, to warm him up for Pacqiao in the spring. With the right fight McCloskey could probably fill the O2 Arena (Point Depot) in Dublin. Capacity of around 9,000.IRLangmaid25 wrote:Unless McCloskey goes Stateside it is the only way I can see it happening, I cannot see Maidana fighting at the National Stadium or the Kings Hall when he has been fighting at the MGM Grand and the Staples Centre.gobbles wrote:Arum will be looking for an easy defence for Bradley on the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard, to warm him up for Pacqiao in the spring. Bloody 'ell, I didn't realise the Odyssey was that big. I thought around 5/6000. Did Rogie pack it out for the Sexton fights?
Re: McCloskey wants a pop at either Maidana or Bradley
Even if an arena holds 50,000 is a top guy really going to want to fight McCloskey in Ireland? Maybe someone like Kotelnik would, as he doesn't seem to have many options, but not Maidana, Bradley, or any of the bigger names.
Re: McCloskey wants a pop at either Maidana or Bradley
No. Stateside would be the only option for a possible Bradley or Maidana fight. I originally made reference to the venue to imply that McCloskey would sell out bigger venues than the Kings Hall or National Stadium with the right fight.crusader wrote:Even if an arena holds 50,000 is a top guy really going to want to fight McCloskey in Ireland? Cordoba brought his WBA title to Ireland for an 'easy' voluntary defence against Bernard Dunne. Money talks.crusader wrote:Even if an arena holds 50,000 is a top guy really going to want to fight McCloskey in Ireland? Cordoba (who also travelled to fight Poonsawat, Rigo, and Sidorenko) had nowhere near the profile of Maidana, Bradley, Alexander, etc., all of whom already get paid tons to fight in America. Do you think Cordoba could've stayed in Panama and made 500k per fight like Maidana or 1.2 million a fight like Bradley?slapbangwhallop wrote:Cordoba brought his WBA title to Ireland for an 'easy' voluntary defence against Bernard Dunne. What did Maidana get for his fights against Cayo and Corley?
Re: McCloskey wants a pop at either Maidana or Bradley
I'm not sure, but Maidana is a much bigger name now that he has fought both Khan and Morales on HBO (in great fights), so he will probably get paid more for future fights than he did for Cayo and Corley. I'm not saying it's impossible (but I doubt it happens) to lure a big name to Ireland, but it will take a ton of money, because those guys are already getting paid very well to fight in places where they don't have tens of thousands of screaming Irishmen rallying against them.
Re: McCloskey wants a pop at either Maidana or Bradley
Once again McCloskey is looking for fighters that he can't beat.
He should be avoiding Bradley, Alexander and Maidana at all costs.
If he keeps losing these fights, it's really gonna knock his reputation as a boxer.
If I could give him advice, McCloskey should look at getitng his European title back, as a platform from which to work.
