I really enjoyed the showtime commentary, and the whole presentation. Its just classier than SKY and even HBO.

I think Sky need to get back to the basics a bit more. Focus on what the boxers are actually doing technically, and cut out all the drama or in watts case the repetitive comments.

Also as a slight aside, Fight Camp 360 is excellent. I've said it before and I will say it again, it tops 24/7 every day of the week.

I watched it with the SHO commentary. Other than them waffling and not really talking about the fight at all over the first round, I thought they did a really good job. Tarver's just so enthusiastic, said good things about both fighters and gave good insight, especially with his experience of actually having fought Glen Johnson. Also, you've got to love comments like "England, YOU HAVE A GUY HERE!!" and, although it was probably undue, "did anybody say fight of the year?!". You just get the impression they're really enjoying the fight. I liked it when they asked Tarver what it was like to be older and fighting into the later rounds, and he went "I don't know." Pretty funny.

By contrast, I can't stand negative Jim Watt since he commented on Haye-Valuev, which I had Haye clearly winning. I just couldn't see where he was coming from. I watched Groves Degale live but when I re-watched on Youtube with the SKY commentary I thought the team sucked a lot of the joy out of the fight. I was at work during the Froch fight so I had to search for it on Youtube when I got in the next day, and was chuffed to find the one on there was the SHO team and not SKY.

I really liked the US commentary on Hamed - Kelley. It went something along the lines of....

"The Prince has come here with a reputation of having power of his own, as yet we haven't seen any evidence of that."

Then Hamed knocked him down with the next punch.

Woodhall is a decent, down-to-earth and honest lad with no personality-disrupted agendas. I agree.

They just seem happier-go-luckier guys on Showtime, with no constant sarcasm/snidey remarks. More praise than bore.

I haven't stood Jim Watt's commentary since the 80s, four decades ago.

Totally agree with the thread, I just rewatched the fight on youtube with the Showtime commentary. it was like watching a different fight!

The whole way they presented the fight was more positive, more fun and more engaging for the viewer. They were enthusing about the positives of both fighters, giving both credit and called the fight correctly imo.

After watching the fight on Sky I went to bed at 4am feeling a bit disappointed due to the sheer negativity and nit picking that had just happened for 45 minutes.

After watching the Showtime commentary I can't wait for the final. Jesus Sky, if you are trying to sell Froch and boxing in general, please stop being so negative in the commentary and picking holes in our fighters.

I know it has been mentioned in another thread but thought it was worth it's own thread because I'm sure we can generate some discussion on this.

I'm watching it on youtube at the mo and I'm aghast at how good the commentary and punditry is. Antonio Tarver is offering excellent views, they have Andre Ward commenting between rounds and the 2 ther guys in the commentary box seem to really compliment each other along with Tarver in there. It's also interesting to note they are all extremely complimentary of Froch, it would seem he is fairly popular Stateside, perhaps not with your casual American fans who have always been and always be fickle when it comes to 'foreign' fighters, but certainly with the more knowledgable lot.

Anyone else watched showtimes coverage?

When I watched it on Youtube I got the commentary from Gus Johnson, Al Bernstein, Antonio Tarver and Andre Ward, and I agree it worked and their commentary just seemed to help the fight go by even quicker as I will admit I sometimes prefer them to Lampley and the gang.

I pretty much agree with all that - it really was a lot more positive in general. Showtime picked up the negatives in each fighters style and performance on the night but they also highlighted the good things they did more frequently than Sky.

Not that I want to be too critical of Sky, they still put on a quality set of fights tonight and I was happy overall.

Ps why did Sky not have all of the post fight interviews? Having watched them on the Showtime commentary, they were pretty good. Though I admit you can't predict how good an interview is going to be, they are always worth showing in my opinion.

And you can hardly say the punditry afterwards was of the highest calibre. It all seems a bit samey samey with Nelson and McGuigan, they know their stuff no doubt but I can't help but feel it needs a bit of a shake up. Barker's punditry seemed refreshing I thought, and obviously he was able to give some insight with his links to Froch (sparring partners.)

Yeh they missed a Froch vs Ward head to head interview to build up the final. Bit pants really they way they went back to the studio and then just cut it off dead.

Yeah, but that was a younger Larry Merchant. Big difference to the people who are around today.

Watt is quality. I like his analysis and knowledgable insight. Atleast he is honest and upfront.

Some of the American commentators are sooo baised and sappy (not Bernstein), Kellerman is pretty good, Lambert is just a waste, Merchant is pretty good (he was better years ago), not a fan of Tarver or Steward at all, states the obvious too much, very basic insight. RJJ is pretty good.
