Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Froch said in his post-fight comments that he believed the 114-114 score by the Japanese judge was a 'bad card'.
But how did you score the fight?
But how did you score the fight?
Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
117-112. Froch up by 5.
Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
My card matched the Japanese judge's card.
Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Because only 10 poll options could be entered, I couldn't put a 'Froch by 5 rounds' option.
Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
116-112 I think my score was. It was one of them strange fights to judge early on, but a pattern started with Johnson landing big and backing Carl up for first 30 seconds of the rounds then Carl putting his punches together after that and taking the rounds. Couldn't see how the judge scored a draw to be honest, and listing to Johnson after the fight he knew he was beat

116-113. Even after 9, Froch sweeping final 3.

Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Yeah, mine was 116-113 too. Whenever Johnson has lost a close fight he complains long and loud. Neither he or his promoter really said anything afterwards. That's as much of an admission you'll get that neither thought they won the fight.

A lot of people are scoring the fight really close, (over in Current Scene) with a couple of rounds deciding it.
And while I do agree that the rounds are open to interpretation, I think that some people are (maybe) having a laugh.
Yes, Johnson landed his big right hand repeatedly, but Froch answered back with hard-hitting flurries.
Froch outworked Johnson, he took all of Glen's best punches and they just seemed to bounce of him.
I give the second & third rounds to Johnson, because he was getting in close and causing problems... But every other round I scored it 10-9 to Froch, as Froch controlled the tempo of the fight and outworked Johnson.

Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
I agree with the analysis. I thought the commentary made it sound like Johnson had Froch in loads of trouble, whereas to me anytime he got clocked he came back with flurries.Crease wrote:

Johnson did land a few, but far too infrequently. Froch was doing the more work in the rounds and was landing on Glen.

Whenever I am watching a boxing fight being fought in America, I often mute the commentary, because they are not always partial.jBacca wrote:I agree with the analysis. Even in the current scene, they are talking about Johnson being faded and over-the-hill... I thought Johnson fought well, the main problem was: Froch was able to take his right hands, and Johnson had no answer for that when he realised his big shots weren't putting Froch down.

I had it 115-114 for Froch but I scored one round even that should have gone to Froch (I'm a Johnson fan), so I actually saw it more like 115-113 Froch. Scores like 118-110 definitely don't reflect how competitive the fight was, but I suppose that if you gave Froch every close round those types of scores are possible.

Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
What,in your opinion, did Johnson do for the fight to be scored that close?crusader wrote:You thought Froch won the seventh? I thought that was one of the few clear rounds for Johnson.

Yes, I agree it was a competitive fight, and there were many close rounds that were open to interpretation.
Froch outworked Johnson throughout the fight, and while Johnson did land his big shots (is that way you're giving him rounds) but Froch keep back at him, put combinations together, and dictated the pace of the fight.
Johnson mad eit awkward, but the fight wasn't as close as the judges made it.
Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
The first two rounds were more of the feeling out type, but I thought Johnson was the one pressing the issue a bit more (Froch seemed hesitant) and he edged these very close rounds on my card. I gave Froch the next three (although I thought the third was close) because he started to let his hands go and put the punches together in bunches. Johnson came on strong in the mid rounds and I gave him the sixth, seventh, and eighth: the sixth was extremely close (I gave it to Froch when I watched the fight a second time) and could have gone either way, but watching it live I thought Johnson landed the harder punches and I don't think Froch controlled the tempo or did much cleanier work; the seventh was probably Johnson's best round of the fight, as he landed his big right hand and appeared to have Froch feeling uncomfortable with body shots; the eighth was closer and could've gone either way as both guys had their moments, but I thought Johnson landed harder kept enough of his momentum from round seven to edge it. Froch dominated the last four rounds as Johnson's output dropped due to fatigue.Crease wrote:What,in your opinion, did Johnson do for the fight to be scored that close?crusader wrote:You thought Froch won the seventh? Overall I thought 1 of the 7 rounds I gave Froch (the third) could have gone to Johnson, while 4 of the 5 rounds I gave to Johnson could have gone to Froch (1, 2, 6, 8 ). Therefore, I can accept a wide range of scores, but I don't think anyone should be acting like Froch definitely won by a wide margin. A lot of people are talking about Froch doing the much cleaner work and dictating the pace, but I thought that was only the case during six of the rounds.

Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Glad you made this thread, i did a live rd by rd for this fight and got some shit from people because they didn't like the fact i had Johnson up by a few rds after 8 and had it the same as you at 114-114. I just scored it as i saw it and although Froch was the more active fighter during the earlier rds i thought most of his flurries were clearly being blocked wheras Johnson was landing the more solid and eyecatching punches to the head and body plus scoring with some nice jabs and generally forcing the action. I will say that Froch clearly won his 6rds on my scorecard wheras a couple of Johnsons rds were very close so i could understand someone scoring them for Froch and coming up with 116-112 Froch.nh1 wrote:Froch said in his post-fight comments that he believed the 114-114 score by the Japanese judge was a 'bad card'.
But how did you score the fight?
The difference was from the 9th rd onwards Froch was starting to land cleaner shots and Johnsons workout dropped considerably apart from the odd big shot, he stopped landing bodyshots or jabs and was starting to get roughed up by the end so on reflection the right man won in Froch.
My Scorecard
Round 1: Johnson - Feeling out rd but i felt Johnson just knicked it with a couple of nice jabs and a right hand.
Round 2: Johnson
Round 3: Johnson

Re: Your Froch--Johnson Scorecards
Agreed. I gave second and third to Johnson just because he was getting closer to Froch and making things uncomfortable for "The Cobra"... Johnson looked threatening second and third rounds because Froch wasn't able to stand away and box him as he he did in the first round, in which Johnson offered nothing.crusader wrote:The first two rounds were more of the feeling out type, but I thought Johnson was the one pressing the issue a bit more (Froch seemed hesitant) and he edged these very close rounds on my card.

This is where we are going to disagree, because I gave all them rounds to Froch.
In my opinion Froch did control the fight. He engaged only when he wanted to, and he let his hands go when Johnson got close to him... Those flurries were eye-catching, and because of that Froch won rounds, Froch was able to maintain the space between him and Johnson and whenever Glen did get close, Froch would open up on him.crusader wrote:watching it live I thought Johnson landed the harder punches and I don't think Froch controlled the tempo or did much cleanier work
The best thing that can be said about Johnson was he landed his right hands a lot. But throughout the fight, it became more and more obvious that the overhand right was Johnson's only punch and that Froch could take it on the chin.
Everytime Froch opened up on Johnson, Johnson covered up and had to step back. Froch was able to force Johnson back at will, because he was the harder puncher.
You have been listening to the commentary mate.crusader wrote:the seventh was probably Johnson's best round of the fight, as he landed his big right hand and appeared to have Froch feeling uncomfortable with body shots; the eighth was closer and could've gone either way as both guys had their moments, but I thought Johnson landed harder kept enough of his momentum from round seven to edge it.
When did Johnson have Froch hurt? Name once when Carl stumbled or grimaced in pain? He didn't. Whenever Johnson had Froch pressurised, Froch opened up, forced Johnson back and dictated the pace and distance of the fight.
Froch won the fight. I don't see why a lot of the Ameircan fans have scored the fight won by 1 round, Johnson never hurt Froch, nor did he dictate the tempo.crusader wrote:I don't think anyone should be acting like Froch definitely won by a wide margin. Johnson even said in the post fight interview that he allowed Froch to fight his game:

Fast forward 7 min to the interviews after the fight. Johnson knew he was beat.
