Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
Been seeing some info that Calzaghe is back in the gym doing pad work and that Froch eludes to a potential fight next year. There's also the chance of a Hopkins/Calzaghe II.
Can this type of big, big money lure Calzaghe back for one, or maybe two more fights? Maybe some of our UK members have some more info.
I personally doubt it.

If he's been coking it up since he retired, he could very well need the money.
LOL
Howard Stern had Flava Flav on the other day and he talked about how he had a $26k a day coke habit for years. "Cocaine is a helluva drug."

$26K a day? No f'ing way. I'm not a street drug economist, but that seems impossible to do and pay for!uptconnect wrote:If he's been coking it up since he retired, he could very well need the money.

I meant per week. Which still seems impossible, I know. But that's what he swears to.JCS wrote:$26K a day? No f'ing way. I'm not a street drug economist, but that seems impossible to do and pay for!uptconnect wrote:If he's been coking it up since he retired, he could very well need the money.

My point was just that no matter how much $ you have, you can piss it away fast with a bad habit like Coke or Heroin. Keep in mind, it's not usually just the perchaser doing the consuming. Lots of "friends" hang around when you are the man with the "stuff".
Re: Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
Calzaghe isn't stupid. He knows the division is too competitive now. And some of that handspeed is surely gone. He would torpedo his legacy. Unless he needs money bad this ain't happening tho I'd like to see it. I don't think it would end well.

Calzaghe stepped out of the ring as his reflexes had shown serious signs of decline. He still had the stamina and most the handspeed but his balance, reflexes and even his chin to a certain extent seemed to be waning. People always sight to RJJ being shot when they fought, in my mind so was Joey C, he would lose to a lot of the top guys after so long out.

No doubt, that's a couple keys. Nobody can do that much. And anybody using up massive quantities is smoking it. So it may as well be called a crack habit.

I also clarified that I mistakenly put day instead of week.
Still though, 26k a week on anything seems ridiculous. (Think of the entourage, though..)
(I remember seeing a documentary on the lead singer from 3 Dog Night a while back, and by all accounts, he spent just under 50k a week on heroin during a 5 year stretch)

Smack is a different thing all together and one that I thankfully don't know a thing about. Habit indicates he was doing it himself and nobody snorts those amounts of blow. If he meant he was having week long parties for 200 people, then it isn't worth mentioning.uptconnect wrote:Flav said it was crack and powder both.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:JCS wrote: $26K a day? Usually, when someone has a habit such as cocaine, they surround themselves with others who share the same habit. I don't think the word "Habit" is totally exclusive to individual consumption. He didn't say he smoked/snorted that much coke per week.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Smack is a different thing all together and one that I thankfully don't know a thing about. Re: Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
I don't think he is tight for cash as he has investments in particular in property, although he has apparently suffered some losses on them which I remember reading about both in the Telegraph and in one of the Sunday papers. As for his cocaine habit which was exposed in the News of the World I am sure he has addressed this problem with the support of his family and friends, as for any talk of a comeback, I very much doubt, he has nothing to prove and the fire for getting back into the ring is no longer there and wishes to remain retired but he still keeps fit with alot of running and weights.

Judging by this photo he looks like he is enjoying his retirement but is still keeping in shape

That's horseshit man, nobody could do that much coke a day. Coke is $50 a g in the states, that means he'd 520 grammes a day. 6 in one hour is a lethal dose. You would have a massive heart attack.uptconnect wrote:If he's been coking it up since he retired, he could very well need the money.

Either Flav is one dumb ass fornicator, who doesn't know shit from shinola, he has the heart of a rhinocerous, or someone is talking utter shite.

Joe Clazaghe should stay retired, he has nothign left to prove.
If he does choose to return I would love to see him fight Carl Froch.
What a fight that would be!!!

WOW $50 a G!!! man you guys have it easy, in australia its $300 a G!!! although gun violence is very low
Re: Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
Some poster claimed calzaghe was declining seriously when he retired which is garbage.
Joe went out at the absolute top. Against both rjj and hopkins he showed the same incredible workrate, versatility and desire he always had.
To say the division is too competitive for joe today is garbage. If joe announced he was coming back tommorow and had 2-3 hard gym fights.id wager he would still beat kessler, ward, dirrel, and abraham. The true tests would be froch hopkins and johnson at 168-175

However, if his "peak" was scrutinized like some other guys, he wouldn't be as lauded as he is. Joe's most definitive win was against Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward made that look like a cake walk. Then his fans will jump to the Hopkins fight, which I would give to Joe, simply on activity and the mood of the fight. I had it six rounds apiece, which would have been 114-113 Hopkins, but I didn't feel like Hopkins carried the night. However, I did always feel like Joe did not land more than HALF of the punches Compubox gave him credit for. In fact, some guy on youtube with NO LIFE did a brilliant breakdown of the entire fight highlighting Joe's ineptitude. Go watch it.
If Joe does come back, just like Jones Jr. all the fundamental mistakes will catch up to him, and he will get Roy Jones'd.

He is full of shit. And doing coke can't possibly wipe away millions that quickly. I don't know that we are splitting hairs. Flava Flav (I know the cat is SOOOO lame its hard to even be using him as an example), by his own and his accountant's and Exwife's tallies, he spent 5.7 Million on drugs in 6 years. Im not going to do the math or say it's the full on truth, but he's not the only one.
Whitney Houston spent 6k a week on coke for years. That will wipe away millions quickly, no doubt.
Anyways, agree to disagree that Coke can erase Millions in a blink, I guess.

Yes, that's well said. That Hopkins fight was almost entirely slaps, glancing blows, misses and blocked shots, and he was lucky to come through with the decision.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:However, if his "peak" was scrutinized like some other guys, he wouldn't be as lauded as he is.

I'm not airing a bunch of stuff on the internet. But i know a lot more than reading tabloids and you're mixing up being a crack head with snorting coke. And neither can blast away millions in a short period of time. Being a drug addict can lead to other behavior that helps. But Whitney Houston sure as hell never snorted 9 ounces of coke a week. No way in hell, never happened, whatever you read is wrong.
Re: Calzaghe comeback murmurs. Any truth?
News of the World is a tits and ass paper with little regard for the truth.
