Prizefighter is it time for a change
Prize fighter is getting terrible,Would rather see a small hall show
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
No I think it is fine.
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
It's always been terrible, but the numbers are much better than any of the standard Saturday Fight Night's Sky show, so doubt it will be axed any time soon.

More International Prizefighter as well.
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
I think you'll always get good and bad PrizeFighters although i'd like to see them select more attack minded fighters who actually have some power in their punches who will trade leather rather then the more crafty stealth types who win boring decisions.
Maybe some extra money in the pot for fighters who win by KO's or score the most KD's. I would definately like to see more international fighters in the tournament too, at least 2 in every one.

No it isnt.
I think tonights prizefighter was the best ever. A star was born in el maachi.
Witter, lynes and el maachis involvement was intriguing
i was praying for the final we got and i dont agree with adam smith that it was messy. It was engrossing and a fascinating battle of old lion and young lion in that ingle style.
Terrific fascinating final with a level of style u dont see often.

Do you box Mugabi?
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Not really 3 former British champions tonight. Still much more viewers will watch than normal Saturday fight night also more than the one man and a dog who paid for Degale v Groves. I rather sky show more fights.horndawg80 wrote:It is too regular! It will burn out like Pop Idol.........ha-ha

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Prizefighter is still a fantastic format and a great piece of entertainment for the public on paper.
The last couple have been the best of the series so far despite last nights poor showing from the Welterweights. Still plenty more miles left on the clock for it yet.
I think the problem with lasts nights event was the fact that it didn't have enough hungry, young, capable fighters who were coming through and had potential. The quarters were basically warm-up matches before the main event of the semi's, but even the semi's didn't deliver that much. The final was a joke from all angles.
Here's to hoping the next event is just that bit extra special.

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
I have done ok too. If you take one from each side of the draw you generally do alright. I have often ended up with both finalists.Took Yassine last night purely because of the hype his pals have given him on here, i had never even seem him box!horndawg80 wrote:I like Prizefighter! Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
seriously? i won money on Yassine last night, but for me theres no way he should have even been in the final.mugabi wrote:No it isnt.

and the way he was jumping is was making me very nervous, felt like he was gonna get sparked any moment.
his style is certainly entertaining, and whilst 31 years aint exactly old, its not young in boxing terms either
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
I think it is on too often. I would like to see the likes of the four semi finalists involved in other title fights, even its the English/Celtic title as a stepping stone back.
The financial insentive is too good to turn down (as that interview with Colin Lynes on boxrec news indicated). However, it just me but I would rather see these fighters in 10/12 rounders.
Its good once in a while, but getting a bit too much if we know who is involved in the prizefighter after next.

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Absolutely nothing wrong with it (apart from a bit of clarity over what happens in the event of a draw being scored). Yes, sometimes the quality can be sketchy, but thats the same with a Saturday Night Fight show. And at least with PF you are guaranteed 7 fights, with all competitors looking for a victory and not just turning up as an opponent for one of the Promoters prized possessions.
It's not the highest level of UK boxing, but it never claimed to be and it does provide a showcase for some guys who wouldn't otherwise have that opportunity - think of the likes of Prince Arron, Martin Murray, Willie Casey, Martin Rogan and potentially Rocky Fielding.

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Last nights was a bit poor but the name value would certainly have been no worse than any others .
Ive never watched El Maachii , just read his hype on here , and although he won id say i was very unimpressed with him , i wasnt expecting the type of fighter he is , hes dirty inside , he doesnt jab , his fights are very scrappy etc etc
I reckon he fights like somone whos turned pro following a succesful spell on the white collar scene so isnt as schooled in the finer skills as much as someone with a disinguished amateur career .
I dont think prizefighter needs changing though , just would like to see a few more international ones , but with international names not just anyone from across the globe , it still needs to stay relevant .

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Prizefighter was interesting at the start.... but is dreadful viewing now.
The Pros seem to recede into clueless novices....
I'm surprised the viewing figures are so high - I adore watching boxing but couldn't bring myself to watch this shit on TV and even turned down a free ticket to the event. I would rather watch snails fighting through mud.... you're more likely to get a knockout too.
Prizefighter is also partially responsible for getting Audley a world title shot by putting him back in the fight picture and then producing one of the worst PPV events and heavyweight title challenges ever by knocking out an outweighed pub brawler who was actually in teh process of beating him.
Depressing times for pro boxing if prizefighter is so important on the boxing landscape

I'd have a Prizefighter for debutants.
There's nothing worng tith the format, it's the fighters and their styles that decide wether or not it's a good night.

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
Prizefighter works better with the higher weights.
but we dont want a repeat of the last international heavyweight one, where we were hoodwinked and lied to about the possible lineup...a complete bullsh*t affair ...the resulting tourney was a huge let down with a load of crappy early ko's
not good value at all
