Prizefighter is it time for a change
Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
I prefer it as a midweek extra rather than taking over championship boxing at the weekend.
It's not really designed for the regular followers, I can see how it may attract someone that doesn't really know boxing that much, if it gets them taking an interest in SFN's then that's great.
I'd say around half of the Prizefighter's have been good viewing (some very good) whereas others have been awful. The weights don't so much bother me, what I'd like is a mix of avoided fighters, under the radar prospects and men in the last chance saloon - last night's mix was about right, other than the styles which didn't really make for good viewing.
What we shouldn't have is British champions taking it to keep busy and keep the coffers topped up, nor should we see fighters receive title shots on the back of it.

Re: Prizefighter is it time for a change
there are only 3 weight classes with a deep enough pool of talent for more uk based prizefighters. these would be lightweight, super bantam and welter.

Well and truly sick of it.

I enjoyed up until the final which was the worst fight I seen. But for £35 quid a ticket it is good value. Would like to see another international one, also the Superfly.keithmoonhangover wrote:Did you have a good night leforge?leforge wrote:Each to there own, but as long as people keep watching and paying to go it will continueTHEBUTCH wrote:Well and truly sick of it.

Prizefighter is a great nights entertainment. Everybody is fighting to win and it gets people interested in boxing that may not normally watch. There is plenty of championship boxing available on the TV, Prizefighter has a place.

It was a bizzare fight. They both got hurt in the first round. Literally nothing happened in round two and then there was the falling out of the ring. Is Prizefighter the journeymen dead as a concept now? I still think that would be a decent show and for a while it looked like it was getting enough attention to persuade SKY/Matchroom to run with it.

I would say Sky absolutely love it judging by the amount of dates they give it and the advertising. The viewing figures must crap on SFN'S unfortunately. Skybet do a good job with it as well. Its a casuals dream. Even if the fights are crap at least they only last 3 rounds. I think Eddie Hearn said recently he cant make any money on boxing except Pf. Its well sponsored as well. Its just not for the purists.doctorboxing wrote:Is Prizefighter the journeymen dead as a concept now? I get that they love prizefighter as a whole. I meant the journeyman version of it that was mooted on here and other internet forums a few months back and seemed to have a fair bit of momentum.mickey1975 wrote:I would say Sky absolutely love it judging by the amount of dates they give it and the advertising. I'm sick of it too. I long for the days when we got to watch a young prospect pounding out a dull points victory over an overmatched import who's been sold to us as half decent on the ground of him not getting knocked out by someone who was once half decent.
I just love watching shows where all the winners come from the same corner.
Infact there's nothing I like less than watching 7 evenly matched fights between guys who actually want to win.
Yeah right.

x2
I for one would jump at the chance to go in it! an i'd say most boxers feel the same, it offers decent pay (on progression), tv exposure, entertainment and above all opportunity
but as they say its not everyone's cup of tea..
