Norton vs. Marciano...
15 rounds between a man who trained like Hercules, & another who looked like one.

Even Shavers came at the end of Nortons road, when he was done.

It's overstated that he couldn't take a punch. Foreman and Shavers knock out most with the shots he took. To make it fair using the Cooney version of Norton, Marciano will have to take him on out of his casket.
Rock wasn't usually a very fast starter either. I don't see an early ending and Norton could do some good work with his jab. But I imagine Marciano would get his head in his chest and work the body. I think kenny goes the distance though. Give me Marciano 9-6ish, with a lot of blood on his face.

I agree with you Saad. I think Marciano might taste the canvas early on, but win on points.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Goodnight, Irene wrote:Even Shavers came at the end of Nortons road, when he was done.

Rocky takes it sometime between the 5th and 9th rounds of a competitve and entertaining fight.
Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Dont forget Jose Luis Garcia.
July-2-1970.
There is a press photograph of Ken Norton face down on the canvas.
It looked like Norton had fallen through the roof.
If he was any closer to the canvas he would have been under it.
That photograph can be seen in one of the newspaper articles
at newspaperarchive.com
published the day after the Garcia-Norton fight.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Norton clobbered Garcia at the second time of asking. I agree with those who say his ability to handle a puncher is under-rated.
Not sure he could live with Marciano, though.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
The key for Norton is getting beyond the early rounds. Marciano came on stronger rather than starting quickly.
I'd expect Norton to egt through the early stages and then put up an amazing fight. Lots of swings in momentum but Marciano eventually getting his man late or on points.

This sounds good to me. I dont really see this as being an easy night for Marciano, as some do.Ezzard wrote:The key for Norton is getting beyond the early rounds. Marciano came on stronger rather than starting quickly.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Norton would probably get chopped down early by Dempsey, Louis and Liston but I think Marciano's slower start would let Ken get a foot in the door.
Would be a great fight and one that would allow Marciano to showcase his great abilities.
Lennox Lewis - Norton would be a good fight too if Ken sees round 4 then Lewis would be in a real fight.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Marciano would have him, I'm certain about this one. Norton hasn't go the power to bully Marciano and he hasn't go the skill to outfox him.
Marciano by late stoppage.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Norton would give Marciano a very tough fight, and early on I see him doing lots of damage to Rocky with his jab, but I agree with the general concensus that Ken gradually gets broken down and taken out late. But Marciano would be in a real fight and probably even tastes the canvas a few times . . .he never fought a prime, big athletic HW who had a jab like a peak Norton..

Garcia was on the downhill slide when he fought Norton the second time. He had lost 5 of his last 10 fights, and had been knocked out in 4 of the 5 losses.

Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
On the 'Champions Forever' video, Norton said there were a few times when he had a guy in trouble, but backed off. If he did that with Marciano, he'd be in big trouble.
Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
Norton wins by tko due to cuts or decision.
Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
I agree, but only In the Bizzaro world.theone wrote:Norton wins by tko due to cuts or decision.
Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
By the statement above you obviously believe that prime Norton would have zero chance of defeating Marciano either way I stated, yet:BoxBuzz wrote:I agree, but only In the Bizzaro world.theone wrote:Norton wins by tko due to cuts or decision.
•Norton was bigger stronger and more athletic than any fighter Marciano ever fought.
•Marciano, "Suzy-q" punch on the not so iron-jawed Walcott aside, Marciano usually needed tons of punches to ko his opponents; he was NOT the puncher Foreman or shavers was.
•Norton outboxed Ali twice and almost did the same to prime Holmes.
Picking Marciano to win is one thing. Implying Norton had no shot is just ridiculous.
Re: Norton vs. Marciano...
I would agree that every time two good fighters walk into the ring anything can happen.
I would also say that the pictures above would indicate that perhaps Rocky could "one shot bang" with the best of them.

If they were to fight 100 times...... They'd be knackered.

But I'd still bet on Marciano winning 70 of the fights. Honestly.
