charlie chaplin - what a genius.

Love that clip - must have seen it 50 times and it always makes me LOL!
For those that don't already know - the clip is from the film "City Lights" from 1931.
It is often referred to as a boxing movie, but that scene is the only one in the film that has anything to do with boxing.
It is actually a romantic comedy.
Nevertheless, it is a true gem of a movie, easily one of my favorites.
If you haven't seen it you've missed something.
Chaplin was of course a huge boxing fan and counted several notable boxers among his close friends - Jack Dempsey and Ted "Kid" Lewis to name a few.
He was actually Godfather to Lewis' son.
A great friend of boxing.

Mickey Walker & Chaplin: circa 1925

Re: charlie chaplin - what a genius.
In Henry Cooper's original biography he mentions being in a restaurant having a meal when the waitress brings a bottle of wine over "complements from the old gentleman by the window". The man turned out to be Chaplin.
