Depends on the nature of those problems. Be surprised if they're anything more than 'no more million-pound guarantees Amir'. Find it hard to view this as about anything more than money. Sky have already shown they won't be held to ransom. They've made their position clear and they don't seem willing to budge, which would appear to mean pay the Khans what they're asking. It's business. The Khans had no problem offering the fights to Sky, so there was no issue on their side. And as we know, Sky likes a pound note - if they thought they'd have made money, no way would they have knocked those fights back. There would have to be a lot of give and take on both sides, but Sky don't look like they'll budge over money. It'll be a test of nerve, fascinating.
Amir went on ppv far to early which has made him think he is a ppv star. PPV should be for very big fights only
And who is to blame for that? It's not Sky and its not Khan.....it's Khan's former promoter.

Could well be I think people thought Khan was going to sell loads off ppv but its not been the case.

Disagree, Sky had the final say, they didn't have to agree just because they were asked — don't forget they make money out of PPVs too.

or Sky for paying peanuts for boxing, whereas a promoter gets roughly the same TV fee for a world title fight as it does for a Commonwealth title fight

Warren took his fights to PPV - he may have been forced too, or it made better business sense for him. Either way, he decided against no PPV events, leading to Khan, Degale thinking they are PPV fighters.

Really gets my back up the the mag 7 bill was on PPV - that is what we should expect for a standard sky show.

I know its been done to death on here, but PPV should be for mega fights only.

Khan is in a more fortunate position I guess because he isn't as reliant on SKY money because of his GBP/HBO backing.

Part right DBF, in that certain fighters got ideas above their station. But no promoter can 'take their fighter to PPV', otherwise far more of them would be doing it. They have to be given a platform, which is what the TV company provides — and the reason that the TV company provides a platform is because it also makes a financial killing on a PPV.

That makes sense Glyn. Would be nice if Sky had some competition in this country like HBO do with Showtime.

Wouldn't it just mate. Seems like Showtime are starting to put a real challenge together at the moment, too. Things can change. There are definitely some cracks appearing in Sky's domination, it all depends on whether another network will step up and try to exploit them.

I wonder if ESPN UK will dip their toe in the water. They've got some Premier L:eague rights, but they may be happy just to show Friday Night Fights.

The problem with ESPN is that while they're seriously loaded they have no history of actually broadcasting a fight from the UK. But neither had Premier until the Wembley double-header. Sky are leagues in front of these networks at the moment but it would be healthy for them to have some competition.

Strange how ESPN and Sky have become so matey after Sky originally refused ESPN a PPV platform for UFC. Anyone know any more about this?

oh dear, golden boy have got the raging hump on, this time with sky sports.

over something as insignificant (on the big stage) as khan's flat, messy and premature win over a disappointing mccloskey.

weren't they also going to destroy the WBC, over pascal-hopkins 1 controversy and the (then) in the works pascal-dawson 2?

and obviously they don't like bob arum, whom de la hoya has pretty much said is waiting to croak...

would be funny if oscar fell out with HBO - where would he be then? would there be any more grandstanding after that?

It is in Sky's interest to be pally with another broadcaster in view of the EC rules for broadcasting football (i.e. Must be split between 2 or more broadcasters), so they can share the spoils amicably between them. They will be happier with a junior partner who isn't seeking to muscle in on the first choice matches.

Can't see ESPN being interested in boxing. They were happy looking at selling off Friday Night Fights to rival broadcasters. Hardly a sign of commitment that.

Premier Sports are the ones trying to be the Showtime to Sky's HBO (though Showtime are arguably putting the better quality out at the moment), but Sky look to have taken some of the wind out of their sails with the delayed coverage they are offering.
