Ticket prices???

I am a huge boxing fan, I love the sport a great deal. even to the point where I struck a friendship with a Namibian boxer during the Manchester Commonwealth Games and he now lives in my home (a public house) and boxes as a professional here in the UK.

My point is that I have noticed a sharp increase in ticket prices recently and feel it is not healthy for the sport. (Obviously this is only my opinion).

Cheap seat Tickets used to be £20 - £25 which I was happy to pay and go to as many shows as I could, but now the cheap seats are £30 - £35 which is now proving quite difficult to keep up with.

I also sell tickets for the Namibian boxer who lives at my pub and as a ticket seller it is proving a much harder sell at the higher prices.

The feed back I get is quite negative about the prices now because no matter how many fights are on the bill, they are only interested in watching the one boxer they are going to support. This then seems rather expensive to go and watch one fight.

I am no promoter and am not clued up on the costs of putting on a show but wouldn't it be better if the tickets were cheaper and more people attended rather than more expensive tickets and fewer people.

As I said this is only my opinion, I would like to hear comments from everyone and see what the general opinion is.

Agreed.

But what I am trying to get at is how to encourage more 'general public' to come and watch boxing, people who are not hardcore fans but are slightly interested.

I agree that the price of tickets is a BIG turn off for fans, I ent to see Elcock Vs Rhodes in a Birmingham small hall show recently and quite a few of my mates wanted to come until I mentioned the £25 ticket prices.

I also know little about promoters costs and profit margins.

Same prices here in Denmark, starts at around £25.
I just checked the prizes for the upcoming Sauerland card with Eastman and Magee. There you can get tickets from €15 to €150.

Edit:
On Steinforths card on saturday the ticket prizes are from €9 to 50€

Ali Nuumbembe; dosent he live in a caravan out the back... thats genius. Thought he gave a good account of himself vs barnes. Support was fantastic for him. yopu must have shifted some tickets. Any idea what he's planning next? Apart form buying his own gaff!

Yep he is Ali, he is a great lad and is a pleasure to have around. He has good support and does sell tickets.

We use to go to many shows but cant afford to now just the odd one here and there.

What concerns me is if we are like that what is your every day general Joe public going to think?

Boxing is becoming an exspensive hobby, I think it would be cheaper getting a season ticket for Chelsea or Man United

I think the Hatton-Tszyu ticket prices took the piss. My normal £50 seat was up to £75. Was still going to pay it until they sold out in 2 hours!

Nice one, hope the lad does well... seems to be hard working fighter who technically was sound. Does he lack knockout power? Something that may hinder him in going any further than brit level ?
