D'you remember "The Sign Of The Cross", Jaclem? I only ask because I nearly choked on my popcorn (not a euphemism) watching it on DVD -- obviously it was pre-Hays but it genuinely shocked me, the sensuality of that bath scene. & the lesbianism. & the breasts. Fine looking woman in her day, Ms. Colbert.

It's not so much the libertine societal attitudes of the twenties & early thirties that I find interesting RE: something like the Hays code, it's the bizarre insistence of the mindset that followed that prudery & condemnation flowed unfettered from the 1880s to the 1950s without any kind of a break, & how some of those born in that time somehow also got brought up in that narrow mindset (i.e. lacking perspective on how things had been different just a short time before).

Anyway, dragging this off-topic, I'll shut up now.
