Pernell Whitaker Vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. What if?

Post by KOJOE90 »

Who do you think would have won between Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather Jr at Lightwight or Light-Welterweight?

Two multi talented, fast handed fighters both with great defence and big ego's.

Would Pernells tricky southpaw style confused Mayweather? Or would Mayweathers blistering combinations have been too much for Whitaker?

Tough one to call I think. Any views fight fans? :box:

The fight would have sucked....Pernell Whitaker was another safety first southpaw like Comacho. "Sweet Pea" was way over rated and had no power. The only way it would be a fight is if Mayweather pressed the action. Both are counter punchers, so I think the fight would be a boring affair as both looked to counter the others lead....since neither will lead it would be a posing match. Mayweather in a very boring decision....  :TU:

I would pick Whitiker over Mayweather. Whitker didn't have a huge punch but enough to get your respect.

Although I was never a fan of Whitaker I never doubted his talent.Like Jones in his prime he rarely lost rounds, much less fights, unlike Jones,he'd fight anybody. He was too defensive but he was tough as hell as we all found out against Trinidad.Mayweather is special but he has a little more trouble with the top fighters than Whitaker did so I'll take Sweet Pea by close decision.

Pernell gets a rough ride from fans. He beat Chavez and ramirez fair and square. He fought everyone (as mentioned above) and always gave a good account of himself win or lose. He's the best lightweigth since Duran. I'd back him to win a chess match against mayweather.

He's the best lightweight since Duran.
Says Ezzard about "Sweet Pea"....that is boxing blasphemy to even mention Whitaker in the same breath as Roberto Duran......One was fighter, the other wished he could have been a fighter.

As much as I admire Roberto Duran I think Whitaker has the slippery skills tp give Duran fits.

Having said that over 15 rounds at Lightweight Duran would eventually catch up with him.

He said the best since Duran, not as good as Duran.

I'm going for a draw here, with neither having a mark on them at the end of it. Maybe either one could shift it, but I don't think it would be by more than 2 rounds either way.

You might have hit the nail on the head with that one...I like(d) both fighters...but against each other, it could get pretty boring...

...and...If one did beat the other, there would be just as many who would see it the other way...

No blasphemy intended. I'd pick Duran every time.

mayweather

Mayweather Junior is a great fighter...pernell whitaker might be one of the altime greats, but the way mayweather is fighting, if he keeps it up he too will be if not the greatest welterweight of all time, pretty damn close....hes lightning quik and whitacker wouldnt stand a chance...mayweather by unanimous..and i mean UNANIMOUS decision...mayweather takes 9/10 outta 12 rounds
