Fighter of the Year: The best of the fighter of the year
Who was the best fighter in Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine to you?
I pick Thomas Hearns in 1980. Six fights, six KOs.

No, I'm being sarcastic. On a post before this one, elmer called Hearns a frail and weak jawed welterweight.dempseyfire wrote:OK now you are just trolling . .theone wrote:Really??? The frail glass jawed Hearns is your favorite???

Now Elmer has started a thread to feign objectivity. Don't mind Dempsey, people are insulting his hero and he is understandably upset.

..ezzard charles 49 and 50...and they weren't even his best years...
Re: Fighter of the Year: The best of the fighter of the year
Henry Armstrong 1937.
27 fights, 27 wins, 26 KOs.
1938 and 1939 were more successful years for Hank but he didn't win FOTY in either.

That is probably the best of them all.
How about the great Muhammad Ali in 1966? Why they did not give it to him?...It was pure injustice.

And you are saying that Hearns did not had a weak chin?theone wrote:No, I'm being sarcastic. On a post before this one, elmer called Hearns a frail and weak jawed welterweight.dempseyfire wrote:OK now you are just trolling . .theone wrote:Really??? The frail glass jawed Hearns is your favorite???
What more evidence can you get?
Leonard TKO Hearns
Hagler murdered him
Barkley put him out of the ring
Roldan almost knocked him out
Leonard almost did the trick in the rematch...But this time, Hearns knew how to tie down his opponent.
At ww, he was frail. At 154 and up, it was the best for him
I also say that 154lbs was also the best weight class for Felix "Tito" Trinidad.
Re: Fighter of the Year: The best of the fighter of the year
Jackie Berg had a great 1930 – 11 fights, 11 wins including Mushy Callaghan , Billy Petrolle, Kid Chocolate (unbeaten at the time) and Tony Canzoneri.
Funnily enough 1930 was the first year Ring Magazine awarded Fighter of the Year, which they gave to Max Schmeling. I think Berg should have been in with a shout.

There ya go, feel better?
And no, his chin wasn't weak. Frail is a much more apt description of your mind than it is Tommy Hearns.
Re: Fighter of the Year: The best of the fighter of the year
Your examples of Hearn's having a frail chin at WW don't make sense. Yes Leonard, one of the greatest fighters ever at the weight Tko'd him. You make it sound as if Leonard was feather fisted.elmersalsa wrote:And you are saying that Hearns did not had a weak chin?theone wrote:No, I'm being sarcastic. Hagler knocked out many a solid chinned fighters at middleweight. And it wasn't as if Hearn's was ko'd with one punch. Hagler needed a ton of punches to beat Hearns. After this match, yes, Hearns did display more of a vulnerability which is no surprise considering the higher weight and the damage Hagler punishment on him. How does any of that translate to Hearns having a frail chin at his WW prime???

What more evidence can you get my man? Hagler stopped Hearns in 3 rounds. That means that your chin is not one of your best assetstheone wrote:Your examples of Hearn's having a frail chin at WW don't make sense. Hearns chin was never tested at welteweight until he faced Leonard. What happened? Hearns in rounds 6, 7 and 13th was in complete trouble. It ended in the 14th, when the referee saved his life.
Barkley put him out of the ring in 3 rounds. That means that his chin can't hold up.
Roldan almost knocks him out
Hearns was blowing everybody away at 147 before the Leonard fight.

Here is you thinking of how to say the same thing for the 1,000th time and the rest of the forum around you.
