Wilfredo Gomez of Puerto Rico was 15 when he competed as a flyweight at Munich. He lost in his first fight to an Egyptian boxer 4-1.
He was underage and should not have boxed. Two years later he won the World Amateur title before turning professional.

The minimum age is 17. Amir Khan was close to that. Meldrick Taylor was 19 and won gold.

Raushee Warren was 17 and the youngest American to compete in the Olympic Games (Greece) in 2004.

Thanks for all the feedback.

has 17 always been the minimum, or was it not when Gomez competed?

I am not sure why Wilfredo was allowed to box as he was clearly underage.Compare this with Heriberto Cintron of Puerto Rico who was actually in the ring in the 1968 Mexico games but was disqualified for being 16 before a punch was thrown.17 has not always the minimum age,in 1928 Hynan Miller was also 16.The all time great John(Jackie) Fields won gold in 1924 at the age of sixteen.
Many seventeen year olds have competed in the Olympics

Gomez doesn't hold the all-time record.
Youngest ever was a Dutchman called Huub Baarsgarst in 1924 who was 15 years 6 months.
